Advantages: Very cheap, easy to clean/keep tidy, available in different colours, comes with scoop

Disadvantages: May be too small for some cats

When we first got our cat we weren't expecting to get her as early as we did, so I had to go on a mad dash at Pets at Home to get everything we needed for her. I wasn't entirely sure what size litter tray to get her, and even though she was (just about) an adult cat I decided to go for this Litter Tray starter kit as it was a very reasonable price and came with everything we needed for her starter period.

The litter tray starter kit costs £2.99 from Pets at Home. It contains a litter tray, scoop and three litter tray liners. The tray is available in pink, blue and grey. I opted for the pink tray as our first cat was a girl. The tray is made from a non-toxic, but quite robust plastic.

The litter tray liners are white and like a tough plastic bag. To use them you simply place the entire tray inside the bag and place the litter in the tray. When the litter is soiled you then remove the bag from the tray turning the bag as you do so to ensure all the litter is contained. The bags were very tough, but after I'd used the three that came with the tray I decided not to purchase anymore as our cat is a 'digger' and likes to bury her mess. This meant that she could easily scratch through the bag and leave holes in it.

The scoop that comes with the tray is extremely helpful. I found that I didn't want to change the entire litter tray just for one poo, so I was able to use the scoop to scoop it out and replace it with a small amount of fresh litter. This saved time and money and is something I would highly recommend doing (even if you have a different litter tray!).

The litter tray itself is actually very tough, over the months that we used it survived our cat (and then a second cat when we got her a friend) digging in it and using it regularly. I found that it was very easy to clean and just a quick wash and wipe would ensure it was clean and ready to be filled with litter again. When we got our second cat we decided to invest in a larger litter tray as, although both cats managed to fit into this kitten one, it is quite small for an adult cat to be using.

Overall, I would really recommend this kit. It is a fantastic price and perfect for any kitten or smaller cat. It's especially handy if you are getting a new cat and want a basic set to get you started if you're unsure what size tray to get. I still use the scoop from this tray with our new larger tray, as I'm sure a scoop alone would come close to the £2.99 price of this kit.

Summary: 5/5 from us!
