Jolly Moggy Catnip Mice
Advantages: Keeps cats entertained, long lasting ,good value for money
Disadvantages: None that I have found
I was having a little bit of a clear out at home a few weeks ago, it was pouring with rain outside so I decided I would be productive and have a bit of a tidy up of a unit in my dining room. I happened to find a bag full of my cat's toys. When I say bagful I really do mean it as over the past couple of years he has built up quite a collection. I think a lot of the toys have come from Christmas time when we have brought him those silly stockings that come with toys in them, however I did happen to find what used to be one of his favourite toys and that was the Jolly Moggy Catnip Mice.
I think it was my Mum and Dad who had brought these particular toys, and I say toys as you get two mice in a pack which I think is a good idea as one is soon lost under a sofa or trapped behind the TV stand so at least there is always one in reserve! One of the good points about this particular toy is that it comes with a low price tag. I have had a long on line to see what these cost and you can pick them up for as little as £1.99 and the most expensive I have seen them is £2.50 so a great bargain for your cat in my opinion. As I mentioned it was my parents who brought this but they are available from Amazon as well as many leading pet stores.
I think because of the simplicity of the mice, the idea actually works really well. What you have are two mice that have some catnip in them, for those that don't know, this is something that will make your cats wild! They are sensitive to the smell of the catnip which is a plant and it tends to make them more playful and it is this that has been put into the mice.
The mice are quite sweet to look at and are not big in size at all, just right for your cat to chase around the room. They come attached to a piece of cardboard and to remove them you need to cut un-twist the plastic tie and then throw this away, this may sound silly but it's really important to do so or else your cat could choke on it. The cardboard is a deep red colour and I am sure it is easy to spot in the pet stores. With the actual mice, one is a cream colour whilst the other is a darker brown. They are approximately 5 cm in length and they also come with a little face built into them. They feel as if they are made of wool and are quite soft to handle.
The mice also come with long tails and Norman likes to chase this and throw it in the air with his mouth so this shows that there is not much weight to the mice. The middle part of the mouse, the stomach is where the catnip is located. If you read the instructions that are printed on the back of the cardboard that the mice are attached to it says that you are best to rub the mice in your hands and this will release the oils. I remember doing this on a rainy day and when I had Norman's full attention and as soon as he smelt the catnip he was soon heading toward the mice! What I tended to do was throw the mice in the air and then he would take a big jump up and catch it with his paws and then start clawing at it. This happened on many occasions and even when I was not about to play with Norman he would happily entertain himself with the toy.
Even though Norman has spent many a moment clawing and chewing at this toy when I introduced them to him again not so long ago they still looked in a god condition. I do think that some of the catnip had faded but he was more than happy to play with the mice.
In summary, I would have no problem in recommending this toy to any cat. The value for money is brilliant and it lasts well, despite Norman clawing and biting away at it! The catnip element makes it that little bit more exciting at it keeps your cat entertained.
I give these 5 out of 5
Thank you for reading
