~Cute catnip mice~
I bought a pack of Jolly Moggy catnip mice at a well known pet superstore a while ago after a previous similar set of Pets At Home 'nibble and gnaw mice' toys had to be replaced. These little Jolly Moggy branded catnip mice toys proved to be quite popular with the cats, as after a few initial sniffs and wary swipes of the paw they soon became something our cats were interested in playing with. When I bought these little mice I thought that they looked cute and compact in size making them something that could easily be carried back to play with by the cats as and when they felt the mood.
In use both cats have enjoyed playing with the mice to some extent although the amount of interest given to them has varied greatly. The addition of the catnip made the mice something that the cats have enjoyed fighting, biting, liking, nuzzling and playing with as they respond well to catnip in most cases. The catnip effect does fade out over time but can be topped up a little with some catnip spray if you have some. The attraction between the cats and the catnip in the mice when they were newly bought had the usual effect whereby the cats became quite playful for a time and then exhausted themselves to the point where they were content with licking the little mice and drooling over them whilst purring quite loudly.
The catnip mice are made from a hessian type material that has been stuffed to give the body of the mice a little bulk, without having anything in them that would be of too much danger to cats. The outer material gives each mouse a nice textured look and feel that enables cats to get their claws and teeth into them and have some fun. There are little tails, ears and whiskers on each mouse which can and do end up coming away from the main body of the mice over time. I find that I do like to keep an eye on the state of repair of these types of cat toys as they can become ripped through energetic cat play at times, meaning that some degree of supervision is advisable when our cats are using the toys, (to make sure they don't swallow anything they shouldn't) in my opinion.
~Product rating/ price~
Over all I feel that these catnip mice are a cat toy that many cats will get some fun from, as long as the mice are not left out for them to play with for long periods of time unsupervised. In use the mice do become quite chewed and battle worn and the tails and ears can and do come away from the main body of the mice, which can be a problem if swallowed by an over keen cat. I wouldn't want to leave these out for the cats to play with all the time for that reason. The cost of a set of 2 catnip mice was £2.55 when I bought them which I felt was reasonable value for money. My rating for the mice is 3 stars as whilst they are a toy that the cats liked they are not as durable as some other cat toys I have bought and will need replacing after a short time due to rips and tears in the material which can make them unsafe for cats to play with.
