Jolly Moggy Jungle Feather Teaser Cat Toy
Advantages: Cat loves it, gives us a chance to bond, frequent special offers, looks and is fun.
Disadvantages: Will break eventually, just depends when you let your cat get their teeth in to it!
My regular readers will be well aware that I have a cat who is my pride and joy. I spend hours every day enjoying her company whether its watching her watch the sun, catch a fly, sleep, play with toys, eat or just generally be sweet rolling around on the floor batting at dust I never get bored of it. I love my cat with all my heart and as she is a slightly sickly cat who may have a decreased life expectancy because of that I like to enrich her life by alternating her toys regularly, giving her quality food, drink and toys. I like to spend lots of time playing toys with her and like most cats she loves everything on a string and anything that moves quickly and that she can chase after.
Despite really knowing better I am always buying my cat teasers toys and often I leave them lying around or I lose my concentration for just a few seconds only to turn and find that my cat is sinking her teeth in to the string or rope and chewing frantically with her stealth like moves trying to get the toy off the end. Quite often she can cause considerable damage in just a few seconds and it is only a matter of time before she chews off the toy that she wants, to then lie on the floor with it with her two back legs holding it and her two front legs allowing her to lick it and bite it before discarding it once she is bored with it. Recently I resolved that I would always supervise play with these particular type of toys before putting them up in a box in my kitchen to ensure that they stay safe ready for the next time we play toys together.
This is a cat teaser toy that is designed to entice your cat or kitten and get their hunting/chasing instinct going and this certainly works for my cat! This is effectively a stick with some string and something fluffy on the end of the string. Basically what I do with my cat is just dangle this around, using my hands to run it around in the air, making sure that it is just outside of her reach. This means that my cat will work hard to try and figure out how she can reach it and ultimately rip it off. This toy can keep her occupied for a good 10 or 15 minutes twice a day before she realises that today is not going to be the day that she gets to ruin it completely. She does catch this every time we play and then that is when I realise that she has a really firm grip on it and it is time to stop playing for another half a day or so.
This particular teaser toy is one of the most vibrant/interesting that I have bought for my cat so far. There is an animal print on the stick with an almost brown coloured elastic string and then a little ball with the same animal print from the stick and then a purple fluffy long bit on the end. This is what really gets my cats attention and when she does inevitably manage to rip this off the ball with the fluffy tail style thing on the end is something we will keep as they make fantastic toys when thrown across the room between myself and my husband and the cat is kept amused for ages because of this!
My cat absolutely loves this and she seems to prefer it over any other teaser that we have. I am not sure if it is because the vibrant pattern or the purple fluff is what is making her so keen on it, but my cat absolutely loves this toy. Every time either myself or my husband gets this toy out my cat is interested as soon as we start waving it around and it is absolutely fantastic at keeping her occupied. My cat plays with this for a good 15 or 20 minutes before she starts to get bored and loses her concentration, that is a fantastic length of time for our often easily bored house cat.
After a period of two months of using this once or twice a day two weeks a month (we alternate toys to try and alleviate boredom) the elastic string has become very thin and frayed so this toy will probably be lucky to last another month. This is just from our cat grabbing it and biting it for a few seconds before we wrestle the toy back off her and put it away until the next play session.
This particular toy is £2.99 and this has fared well with our cat so far. This may seem a little expensive when you consider that we go through 4 or 5 per year, however, we never feel money is wasted when it provides entertainment for our cat as being a house cat is probably very lonely and boring if no-one plays toys with you regularly and never buys you anything new.
This toy has stood up quite well against our cat and despite her razor sharp teeth it is still hanging on, just, and so because of this alone I am going to rate this 4/5. The colours are vibrant and the price is reasonable, there are frequent special offers on the toys in Pets At Home too (where you can buy this) and I feel that this represents a good opportunity to stock up on some new toys and for us to replace some of her more chewed and tatty ones.
Summary: A fantastic teaser toy for our cat to play with.
