Kong Cat Hugga Wubba
Advantages: Encourages kicking of the toy, catnip, soft
Disadvantages: Looks a little tired after a bit of use
Duke used to have a bit of a biting problem. You would have to creep past him so he didnt attack your feet but that didnt usually work anyway! When looking online at ways I could encourage him to stop this behaviour and in turn, get my arms and legs cut free(!) I heard about the Kong Wubba.
Kong is a brand I am familiar with because we have a few of the dog toys for my sisters dog. It is a brand that designs toys for your pets that are designed to help with their boredom and also to keep their interest and work their brains. I had assumed that Kong was a fairly expensive brand but I was pleased to find that these Wubba's can be picked up for less than £4 with me finding mine on Amazon for somewhere around the £3.80 mark. The Wubba's come in a variety of colours and designs including a yellow duck, grey mouse and blue bunny. We have a lilac mouse.
When the toy arrived and I began to open the box, Duke was already at my feet trying to get into the box! The legs of the Wubba are filled with catnip which Duke could obviously smell already. I thought this was really good because often catnip toys have a very dull scent but this obviously awakened Duke's senses!
The Wubba is smaller than I expected, it is around 20cm tall and 5cm wide. It is made from a very soft material and is a bit fluffy. It reminds me a bit of a baby blanket. The mouse has whiskers and a black nose and four long dangly legs and a smaller dangly tail. The legs have the crinkle type material in them aswell as the catnip and the rustling sound of these attract the cat. Inside the main body of the mouse is a small bell which again attracts the cats attention.
The Wubba is designed to satisfy the cats kicking instincts. Any owners of cats will know that they often hold something in their front paws and kick at it with their back paws. This was what was happening to my hands so I was keen to wean Duke onto the Wubba!
When I first got this out of the packaging Duke must have played with it constantly for at least half an hour, maybe even an hour. He was flicking it about in the air, biting on its legs, carrying it around in his mouth and also kicking at it. He loved it and was having a brilliant time!
Since then, the Wubba has remained popular. He plays with it every day and if you shake it so the bell can be heard he runs to come to you. The catnip is still strong and he is happy to play with it for a while.
Initially I thought it was a toy that Duke would only be able to play with alone as it is relatively small and I dont want him to end up attacking my hands rather than the toy! However, if I hold one end and dangle it for him he can catch and attack it and he really enjoys this.
Dukes biting and kicking of humans had decreased by the time this had been delivered anyway thanks to the magical powers of feliway but if he does try to nip my fingers if you dangle this for him he will immediately shift his attention from you onto the Wubba.
I'm really pleased I read about this toy online as I hadnt seen it before. Usually I would think £4 was a bit expensive for what is just a sort of stuffed toy for cats but Duke loves this and so do I as it keeps him busy and he really enjoys playing with it. He carries it around in his mouth and its a bit like a baby rattle. I am unwell at the moment so if I go to rest in the day I take this with Duke and it keeps him happy. It is beginning to look a little tired already but I think that for the joy that Duke is getting from it then I would be more than happy to buy a new one every few months. Next time I think we will go for a duck as these look cute!
Summary: Fantastic toy that all cats should have
