“ Manufacturer: Kookamunga / Type: Catnip Spray „
Catnip is a plant that is also known as Catswort or Catmint but whose proper name is Nepeta cataria and is often used in the manufacture of cat toys because of the effect it has on the Feline population. It is said to have an effect on around 50% of all cats and the effects can last for up to two hours. After this time, cats are once more susceptible to its effects. Researching on Wikipedia also reveals that "Catnip has a history of human medicinal use for its soothing properties. It has also been known to have a slightly numbing effect. The plant has been consumed as a tea, juice, tincture, infusion or poultice, and has also been smoked..." Well I may have tried a lot of things but I must admit, as adventurous asd I am, I have never tried to smoke Catnip!!!! Anyone brave enough to give it a try? This Kookamunga Krazee Kitty Catnip Spray is basically Catnip in a bottle meaning that you can refresh any Catnip toys you might have bought which have worn off or treat other items such as scratching posts! Also on the label you get Kookamunga points which can be used on their website but these are not really worth the paper they are written on! This spray has a slight odour on application but is otherwise untraceable to the human nose though it is supposed to trigger a reaction from your cats. For me personally, I did not find it all that effective. It comes in a 40z pump container and I would imagine this lasts quite a while but I found myself using quite a bit becaue the effects did not last for very long or at least my two boys were not that interested after about twenty minutes or so. I am not sure how long this spray is supposed to be effective but I was kind of expecting a little more reaction! Other catnip products we have bought have had a much longer life so I am not sure if this product is diluted but overall we were not that mpressed with it. Thankfully it only cost just over £4 but I wouldn't buy it again!
Although there are a number of catnip-filled pet toys on the market, the frenzy-inducing substance can be bought on its own in spray form. One such example is Kookamunga's 'Krazee Kitty' which can currently be picked up for £3.99 from Pets at Home. I would say that the price is reasonable considering the fact that Catnip is generally quite pricey stuff, and even though it's in a small container, just one bottle can last for more than a year. The spray contains 100% all natural ingredients, and is safe and non-toxic for your pet. Using the spray - - - - - - - - - - The liquid catnip is housed within a 118ml bottle featuring a pump-top spray. To use, you only need a couple of presses onto your pet's toy - in our cat's case, it will usually be onto a fluffy multicolored mouse. This will keep the cat entertained for five to ten minutes, during which time the hairy beast will demonstrate a range of humorous and frenzied actions. As well as onto a toy, the spray can also be added to a scratching post, thus encouraging a feline to claw said play-thing instead of your sofa. To humans, this particular spray has no real aroma - there's perhaps an incredibly mild chemical smell, but that's all. So how does catnip work? - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Catnip, or Nepeta cataria has an active ingredient called Nepetalactone which mimics the effects of a pheromone. The effects will vary depending on the individual, but usually cats will roll around, lick, chew, and rub their heads on the area in which the catnip has been sprayed. Will the spray be effective for my pet? - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Like other catnip products, the effectiveness of the spray will depend on whether or not your cat is susceptible to catnip - many cats demonstrate no effects whatsoever. A couple of reviewers on the Pets at Home website have awarded the spray only one star because their cats haven't responded well to the substance - but this is a little unfair, and is undoubtedly down to their individual pet's preference rather than a defect in the spray itself. Final Word - - - - - - - Overall, I would give the Krazee Kitty Catnip Spray a high recommendation as it works extremely well time and time again. If your pet is a catnip 'addict' then go get yourself (or I should say 'get your pet') some of this stuff - it always makes for entertaining results.
