      Very helpful

This cracker has been left featherless too soon and is no longer of any interest to my kitty

The sisal Christmas cracker is another cheap and cheerful toy that my Tinker owns. It cost £1.75 from my local pet shop a few weeks ago (two day ago I went in and saw them reduced to £1, so I'm thinking they can't be selling that well) and boy am I glad I didn't pay more for it.

This toy has the shape of a Christams cracker, hence the name, and it measures approximately 8.5 cm. The main part of the cracker is hard and is covered in sisal, ideal for scratching. It also contains a rattle, which is supposed to keep cats/kittens entertained. The ends of the cracker consist of multi-coloured, soft, fluffy feathers. This toy is intended for scratching, rolling and playing with.

When first introduced to Tinker, she took quite a bit of interest in it, mainly in the feathers. She would wrestle with it, claw and bite the feathers off. After only a few days of play, I started noticing bits of feather all over my kitchen floor, whenever I came down in the morning. Within a week, the Christmas cracker was almost bald, with one feather remaining on one end and one and a half on the other. It also seemed that Tinker had lost interest in it, it was obvious that she was no longer bothered about it once it had lost its feathers. She has other rattle toys that she plays with and a scratching post that she uses. The cracker has been put away for now, I might get it out again in a couple of months to see if Tinker has changed her mind about it, and if not it will go straight in the bin.

I would not recommend this toy to a cat owner as I think the quality of it is quite poor. I know it was only cheap, but that is not the point. I did not expect this feather toy to last forever but I did not imagine that the feathers would come off so soon. Be wise and spend your money on something else!
