I prefer the Ancol cat harness

When we brought my cat Shadow home he was a few months old and had never been outside. I decided to try him on a harness and leash; I had some bizarre notion in my head that he would come trotting out on walks by our side in a dog like fashion but I had not figured on the stubborness of a cat!

The trixie cat harness and leash (or travel system as they like to call it) is an extremely high quality item with a few flaws which make it difficult to use. It is made of hard wearing nylon which the cat would need a lot of strength to bite through and there is no chance of it breaking when the animal pulls. It is adjustable to fit most cats with both the neck and chest circumferance being adjustable.

The harness supports the cat well, it fits around the chest and neck with material between these two points. The leash is 120cm long and attaches to the harness with a very high quality metal clip. The leash also had a good sized loop at the end which is great for keeping a good hold of it, I would have preferred it if the leash were a bit longer or adjustable. The leash is attached to the chest piece so this is the part which takes any weight or pressure if you pull the cat along.

You need about 5 hands to put this harness onto the cat, 1 to hold him, 2 to place the straps in place and another 2 to clip the buckles closed. Shadow hates having it put on and although he does not struggle much it is an ordeal. Simba wriggles and this makes it even harder, we have another harness which is one piece with one buckle and this is a lot easier to use.

Shadow simply sits down and refuses to move with the harness on, even if you try to coax him along he just will not budge. Simba will happily wear the harness and it does not restrict his mopvements in any way and he seems comfortable wearing it.

This is a high quality product but unless you have an exceptionally good cat it is going to be a struggle to use it, this harness have been chucked in the back of the drawer and forgotten in favour of the Ancol cat harness which is easier to put on.
