“ Brand: Wilko / Type: Flea Treatment „
I purchased this as I needed something quick to use as I'll be busy all week. Now I'm so sorry that I did, I only applied this less than 5 hrs ago and clearly he's either had an allergy or the product has burnt his skin. AVOID!!!
I adopted a cat that kept sitting on my window sill. She was scratching a lot so I tried the Wilko brand spot on. The Wilko spot on is meant to be on the cat for 7 days before anything else can be added. For 5 days, she continued to scratch and bite her fur feverishly and I confined her to the bathroom. Fortunately, she accepted being in there and seemed to prefer bare surfaces anyway, being fearful of more fleas on the ground, perhaps. For five days I did not find a single flea that had fallen off the cat in the bathroom. I did see one emerge once on her leg and then bury back into her fur. On the sixth day, I bought and fitted a Wilko flea collar (for less money) and on the next day fleas were falling out of her into the bath (she had perched on the edge of it for most of her 6 days' quarantine.) In other words, the Spot on is useless and only serves to extend the suffering while the owner abides by Wilko's warning to add no further flea treatment products for seven days. The people at Wilkinson were not polite when I returned the Spot on (one capsule remaining) telling me not to buy it again. I showed them 6 of the fleas that had come out of the cat after putting on the Wilko flea collar; I had stuck them under cellotape against a small piece of paper. All they did was shriek stupidly and say stupid things like 'you're not getting a refund for the collar as well.'
Everyone who owns a cat/kitten will be very aware of the pure joy that it gives and my Myrtle Rose is not different. I adore my nipper and get so much pleasure from her its unreal however owning a cat doesn't come without its issues of course. When I bought Myrtle she was flea treated, wormed the lot. At 8 weeks old I couldn't find a flea collar small enough to fit her little neck and most flea treatments were not suitable to use on her due to her age but three weeks into having her the flea treatment she had had prior to her coming to me had worn off. So at 11 weeks old I was getting bitten, as were my visitors, at fist it never struck me about fleas I mean she had been treated and she was the only pet apart from hamsters I own so fleas never occurred to me. However what I never occurred to me is I used to have a visitor come with a dog that did have fleas, and although treated she could never get rid of them so she must have given them to my Myrtle....since then allow no animals in my place! I ended up buying this double pack of flea treatment costing me only £2.75 which was considerably cheaper than the £6.00 offerings from more known brands on the shelf that only gives us one treatment and both little tubes you get are meant to give 8 weeks of repelling fleas so 16 weeks of protection! The Packaging: The packaging of this is rather simple and you get a piece of card with the two tubes encased onto it clearly stating that you get two applications in the tube provided and on the card there is a photograph of a cat and we are told that it is Wilko Cat 'Spot-On', Repels Fleas and that it 'Repels fleas in just 4 hours' and that it is for use on cats or kittens over 12 weeks old and that it is insecticide free and we are told exactly the ingredients used on there too. On the back of the card other information listed includes being told a bit about the product and how to use it, cautions and the size is given (each tube holds 0.8ml of the product) and contact details for Wilkinson's are given. Nice enough and hugely informative packaging this is and there are even little diagrams on there showing us simply how to use it at a glance too. Using It' So to use this is really rather simple. The little tube that the treatment comes in is dark green, small and plastic and it has an easy to twist and snap of f little lid and then you get the clear liquid and pop it on the back of your cats neck, parting the hair and not rubbing it in and that's it really within 4 hours we are told that it 'repels' fleas. In my view that is insinuating that it kills them and this smelly like fish liquid certainly doesn't do that! Yep it stinks but thankfully after a while that smell vanishes. It didn't seem to bother Myrtle when I applied it or harm her skin though it did send her yampy tearing through my flat at 100 miles an hour and then avoiding me for the rest of the morning! I left her alone with it on for longer than 4 hours and then peered at her, poking about and giving her a thorough check for fleas. Ok she didn't seem to have as many as previous roaming about but I had grabbed a load prior to using the treatment with tweezers but I still spotted a couple on her and wasn't happy with and she kept scratching. Ok so I thought leave it give it a few more hours to settle in and work but no the next day and the days that followed there were more fleas appearing. Prior to using this I had yet again sprayed my home with flea killing spray and this simply had not worked. I checked the instructions again to check I had followed them correctly and I had. I was left with the other tube of product that was meant to be used 4 weeks later with the idea then you just buy more and continue using them but I got continued to get bitten, Myrtle continued to scratch and I thought blow this I am not wasting my time and coping with these fleas for another 4 weeks just to use the next treatment so binned it and bought something else. This is a cheap to buy product and didn't work one bit in my view. I should have realised that at less then 3 quid for 8 weeks anti flea treatment it was too cheap to work and this really wasn't worth out time and gets a massive thumbs down from us!
