Dreamies Cat Treats with Beef
by elfbwillow1
Dreamies - Tempting Beef
We adopted our cat Merlin three weeks ago and are adjusting to life with a new cat in the house. He is such a lovely little cat, very friendly and loving and has recently been let into the outside world for the first time. I never knew having a cat held the same feelings as having a child - I was ... a nervous wreck, and when he didn't return for over 24 hours, I was starting to get worried that he had got lost (or worse though that did not bare thinking about!).
As a new cat mum, I had gone out and bought many different bits and pieces from equipment to food, and one item in particular was a pack of cat treats; Dreamies in tempting beef flavour. To be honest, it was always going to be hit and miss with our new cat as we did not have much to go on with what he liked with regards to food, though the pet shop had these reduced from £1.55 to £1.00 so I figured that even if he did not like them, it would not break the bank!
This particular range of treats come in a few different flavours each with a differing colour packaging. The beef ones come in a bold pink sachet about the size of my hand (although I am not sure why pink and beef supposedly go together!). I am not entirely sure whether cats are overly worried about what the packaging looks like, though for ease of finding on the shelves for us humans, not only is it bright pink but also has a funny fat cartoon cat lying on its back with an image of the treats above (not actual size). The top of the pack has a clip closed easily resealable edging to keep the treats fresh. The bag is a 60 gram bag with 30 plus servings inside. I am not sure how they measure a serving, though I would have guessed a serving would be one treat at a time as that is what we give Merlin, though there are a lot more than thirty in this small bag!
As you can see, I am still very much a newbie when it comes to cats!
The treats themselves are tiny, square and brown. They have a rough outside which crunches when the cats eat them which I have been told is good for their teeth. It does not take much to break the treat open, though, and inside you will find a soft part. Each treat is only 2 calories as well, which I would imagine to be good for cats treats.
The composition of these treats are as follows;
Vegetable protein extracts, cereals, meat and animal derivatives (min. 4% beef), oils and fats, minerals.
These treats are absolutely fine for both kittens and cats.
I do admit that in the past I have tried a cat biscuit (the things you do when you are young and innocent!), though I have no urge to try one again! In any case, it is what my cat thinks of them that is the main thing, and although Merlin obviously can not talk, I can tell he loves them. The reason I mentioned about Merlin getting lost at the beginning of this review is because we used these treats to help find him. He had already fallen for the taste of these treats, and has got to the point of running up to us every time we simply pick up the pack, and so we shook them when hunting for him and when we were in his hearing range, he ran straight to us - crisis averted by Dreamies! I also mentioned that he is a very loving and calm cat, though he gets very excited when eating these treats and is always wanting more! It is weird as he does not seem to like beef cat food, though I suppose he is like a child in many ways - a treat is a treat and there is always room for a treat!
We have not yet tried any other flavoured Dreamies treat with Merlin yet so can not compare, though I am sure we will do soon enough, though at the moment, Merlin is happy just to have these ones, and that makes me happy as it means I always have a way to bribe him to come home again!
In case you are wondering, Merlin has been out a couple more times now and has now managed to be able to locate home without our help!
A five star rating from the cat! Read the complete review |

Go Cat For Indoor Cats
by rachshikari
I have never owned a cat before so I have no idea what is good or bad for our little Simba, but through trial and error, we try to give him the best we can afford and more importantly, what he enjoys the most.
When we first got him, he was used to eating Asda's Kitty food and he seemed to like it, both dry and wet food. He ... didn't have a preference really but then went off it for some reason. We have had him about 5 months now and recently switched his dry food to Go Cat Complete- For indoor cats. I am aware that some people are against keeping a cat indoors but he has known no different and he's happy. We don't let him out mainly because we live on the high street in our town and so many have gone missing or been killed due to the high traffic volume around us.
We bought the Go Cat from our local Sainsbury's, we first tried him on a small box which cost £1.09 for 375g, we felt that we should try him on a small box first to make sure he liked it else we would have wasted it.
The box is easy to find in any supermarket due to its bright yellow cardboard packaging. It has an image of a ginger cat on the front -Just like our Simba, and then says 'GO CAT COMPLETE' in big red letters. Underneath that it says what type of go cat it is, and in this instant its their 'indoor cat' range, and that is green so that all the writing isn't the same as that can sometimes get confusing.
It says the flavour which can be one of two; either Chicken with vegetables or Salmon with Garden greens. We opted for the latter as he has meaty wet food so wanted him to have something fishy. Next to the chosen flavour it says that it is specially formulated for indoor cats which is what enticed us to buy the product in the first place.
Go Cat claim that this special formula will provide prevention against hairball control, litter odour and also weight control. For the short time we have been using this, maybe about 3 weeks max, he hasn't had any hairballs, but then again I don't think he even has yet. His kitty litter tray has seemed a bit less smelly and his weight has stayed the same. This may change overtime however it doesn't state on the box how long these changes take to notice.
On the reverse of the box it has a little bit more information on what it helps to prevent i.e it contains chicory which is known to prevent litter odours and that it apparently has a great taste, I will leave that decision up to Simba thank you!
So what did Simba think?
We got home just in time for his evening feed and opened the box, this was easy to do as it has a flap on the side that you just pull and it can be easily opened and closed without any problems. We then put some into his bowl and he ran straight over to it. He sniffed it for a couple of seconds and then delved in. He seemed to enjoy it and we were happy due to the fact he had gone off his food for a little bit. he was smacking his little lips together when he had finished so it seemed to be a success! We have kept him on it now for 3 weeks and he still seems to be enjoying it, therefore we shall continue to buy it till he is fed up of it.
Once he had finished the small box of this we did go out and get him a larger box which is 950g and cost £2 which I thought was very reasonable.
Although there have been no issues with him being on the indoor Go Cat, I am a little disappointed that there are only two flavours to choose from, I can't help but think he may get bored of alternating between the two.
Go Cat is available in all supermarkets that stock cat food and even my local polish shops sell it, so it should be very easy to find. Read the complete review |
