Dreamies Cat Treats
Advantages: Cat LOVES them. Last a long time. Affordable. Widely available.
So you've all seen the dreamies advert, right? Where the man shakes the packet of treats and the cat literally breaks through the wall to get to him. Yeah - that's my cat. I suspect if we didn't live in an old house with thick walls our cat would have ruined our house by now. Every time I shake the packet he's miraculously by my side meowing pitifully or squeaking at me to hurry up and feed him.
Dreamies come in a whole host of flavours: Cheese, Beef, Chicken, Salmon, Duck and Turkey. They also sell mix bags with two flavours in the one bag. My local pet shop sells Dreamies treats for £1.50 for 60g, though they are also widely available in supermarkets. The packaging is resealable which is great for keeping the treats fresh.
My cat's favourite flavours of these are Cheese and Beef. We cannot feed him the Salmon unfortunately, as he has an allergy to fish! The treats are small and square in shape. They are crunchy on the outside with a soft, creamy filling. The package recommends an upper limit of 20 treats per day, which is fine as I feed my cat a small handful of about 10-15 every other day (or when he needs to be lured into his carry box or out of a particular hiding place - they are very handy as bribes!) They contain only 2 calories per treat.
These last quite a long time, about 5 weeks in my case, and I've found because of the seal on the packet that they are still crunchy right down to the bottom. Nothing worse for a cat than soggy treats, right? I'm hoping that the crunchy outer shell with help his oral health, because I've tried kitty toothpaste but he's just not having it - even if it is meat flavoured. My cat does head straight to the water fountain after eating Dreamies treats so they must be quite dry.
My cat's enthusiasm when I bring these treats out is a testament to how much he enjoys them. I'd definitely recommend these as a tasty, affordable treat for cats.
