I am reviewing Purina Go cat Tuna and Herring with added vegetables.
As some of you may know my mate has a cat called Splodge who lives with us both along with my poodle Daisy. My mate buys his food but often or not I buy him some too when I see it on offer somewhere.
~ The packaging ~
Comes in a bright yellow box with a cat on the front. It is available for kitten adult senior indoor and the crunchy and tender variety.
Always make sure drinking water is always available.
Their web site www.purina.co.uk or www.go-cat.co.uk
Comes in a yellow box with a cat on the front. Each pack contains 340 grams of dried complete cat food.
~ What does Splodge think of it? ~
Splodge does not like it he turned his nose up at it. I even tried to mix tinned cat food in with it to use it up he still turned his nose up and not impressed.
~ Verdict ~
A total waste of money. I have never been keen on this to be honest I once fed it my cat Henry (now passed away) and he thought the same sniffed it and walked away.
The kibbles come in various shapes and different colours. It doesn't really have a strong smell to it just a hint of fish and a dried biscuit smell to it really. I cant smell any vegetables in it at all to be honest. Feed 50g to a 3 kg cat 70 g to 4 kg cat or 90g to 5kg cat.
I bought this from my local Mc Colls store for £1.19 a box as it was on offer I thought I would give it a go, however the little fella was not at all impressed by it at all. .
I am not actually a cat owner myself but there are several cats amongst the family.
Go-Cat is cat food which is designed to give your animal the nutrition and well-being needed to keep them in tip top condition at all times.
The Go-Cat is provided in a thick paper bag and this is very sturdy for carrying home and for storage without worrying about little nicks and tears and Go-Cat spilling out all over your floor.
My sister's Cat, Lolaboy, is very healthy and at 2 years old he has not yet had a single health problem and this may partly be due to the diet and lifestyle that he has. He is fed twice a day (once before school and once after school!) and as recommended with any cat food he has a regular supply of fresh, clean water.
The food is in various shapes such as fish, bones, little balls etc and Go-Cat is available in a variety of flavours so there should be lots of choice for most cats. It can be served alone or as a mixer together with wet food and Lolaboy eats his alone as he prefers it this way!
He seems to enjoy eating Go-Cat and does not have any unusual toilet habits so clearly it agrees with him overall. I know if he has any left on his tray and it gets put outside (on nice days of course) the neighbourhood cats certainly enjoy coming along and having a munch on it as well!
I would recommend this. A 4kg bag is around £8.35 in Tesco at present and will last a considerable amount of time if you have just one cat. The sell by date is approximately 18 months so there are no worries about it going bad before Lolaboy has finished his twice daily scoff!
I am rating this product 5/5, if it's good enough for Lolaboy it should be good enough for any cat who is not fussy!
Just incase anybody was wondering, Lolaboy was called Charlie, then Lola and then it was discovered that he was actually a boy and you know children... So now he's Lolaboy!
I have been feeding my cats go cat adult dry complete for about 6 months now and i wouldn't change the brand again.
My 3 cats are 5 years old, 2 years old, and 1.5 years old. 2 males and 1 female. All outdoor cats and they all love go cat.
Previous brands i have tried:
Asda tiger complete
Pets at home own brand
Made by Purina, Go cat launched their dry cat food in 1975, and was apparently the first dry cat food in the UK.

start from 80p up to £15 depending on where you purchase your food. (i find Asda the cheapest)
My opinion (or the cats):
Every other brand my cats have turned their noses up at.. apart from Science plan and i cannot afford to feed them that all of the time.
I find Go cat a very reasonable price purchased from the right shop. Every month we purchased 4KG of Duck, rabbit and chicken and 4KG of salmon, trout and tuna. This costs us £17. If we purchased science plan it would cost us almost the same price for one bag of 2kg!
Go cat is supposed to be very filling and perfect to leave out so your cats can graze, and i believe that to be true. I work strange hours so i cannot give my cats set feeding times, so i allow them to graze. I found that when i was feeding them other brands they were always around my feet when i came in the door wanting a tin of wet food etc because they were stuff hungry. But since i have been feeding go cat the bowls are always empty and they are never around my feet.
They all recently had their yearly check up and the vet said they are all of the perfect weight so i thank go cat for that. When i used to feed my eldest cat whiskas she was very over weight.
They are all of a great health and all have lovely coats.
The food itself looks more appealing then other brands and smells good too. When i tried asda own brand it actually smelled of horse manure and it wasnt just me that thought that my family agreed to.
Try go cat if you are paying for more expensive food, i bet your cats will be just as happy and your purse will be happy too.
(some facts taken from asda website and go cat website)
Now, I dont normally buy the Bag, but rather the Boxes of cat food, at 950g. Our local supermarket stocks about 5 Flavours, of which the majority or either Chicken, Turkey or some sort of Fish, mixed together.
The cats have never complained either, and they particularly enjoy the white bones in some flavours (I couldnt tell you the flavour of them) and they have been known to just mooch around looking for the white bones in there, and eating them and them ONLY. They eat the rest when they get hungry, though.
The main selling point about this brand of food, is the name. Purina are a massive company, and they actually care about your pet, and this food gives them the Nutrients and other ingredients needed for a healthy, long living kitty-cat. They also do another selection for Indoor Cats, one for the more 'Mature' Cat and one for the Kittens.
One thing to note, is that many people dont know that you should actually stick to one brand of Cat Food when feeding your cat, because changing means the whole internal system of your cat must change, and this can cause complications, and can result in a small fortune being spent at the Vets.
So, if you buy GoCat, stick to it. At around the £2.20 mark for a 950g box, its not cheap, but it is worth it. And every now and again, Tesco and Asda reduce them to £1.20ish, for special promotions.
The other bonus? Dry food is good for your Cats Teeth! It cleans them AS they eat, unlike canned food, which actually increases plaque and tooth decay.
Both my cats like plenty of variety in their diet, which entails me traipsing the aisles of the supermarket always on the lookout for something new. While Go-Cat isnt new, the new varieties certainly are and cater for the needs of ever type, age, and temperament. (of cat not owner!!)
Anyway, I thought, its different than it was before, so I got some, not expecting miracles. As most of you know, cats are creatures of many moods and varying likes and dislikes which change drastically sometimes, on a daily basis! My two are no exception to this rule. When I think "EUREKA" I have found something they love, the food of choice!! they suddenly decide they dont like it anymore and wail pitifully like they were half starved to death! So home this new GoCat came. Worth a try, I thought.
Now I have one cat who wolfs the dishful down in record time (thats Shady) and one who sniffs around the bowl and walks to and fro before sampling a morsel (that Herby). Never before seen both of them together wolf it up and the purring and washing that ensued afterwards sealed the deal! They loved it in unison!
Okay, I thought, maybe they like it now but in a week it will be a different story, but, no, not at all, their lust for these multi-coloured kibbles increased. Seriously, my cats like it! Both of them.

You are encouraged to roll and throw this for your cat (i.e toss to half way up stairs and let is roll down, driving your cat insane)
My 2kg pack cost me £4.65 and lasts for ages. I hope your cats enjoy it as much as mine do. Give it a try!
My cats were not a big fan of Go cat, in fact it was the last food they would touch. So I bought it a few times while they were kittens but after they kept turning their nose up at it, i decided not to buy again and switched to a supermarket home brand which they loved.
Thas was until I rehomed my new kitten shitty kitty, (I swear he saw me coming). The rehoming shelter did not tell me of his dodgy stomach, so soon after bringing him home it was not long before we had to make an emergency trip to the vets. (Hence the name shitty kitty without going into too much detail). Apparently he had to be put on a special diet to control his digestion, and his bowl movements.
However the expensive food we were buying from the vet was not working, and I was recommended by my work mate,( and cat nut) Go cat for indoor cats.
Obviously because of me previous experience i did not think they would take to it, or it would help shitty kitty, but it did a better job that the food I was getting from the vet. It made his movements more solid, and less smelly, at one point I was gagging from the smells ( smelly cat , smelly cat, as only pheobe boufet can sing that song). The indoor cat food is designed to control litter odour smells ( so we are so much more happy with shitty kitty) and also hairballs, as indoor cats groom themselves more and have a higher incidence of these.
And the added bonus was that my two other cats took to this food, straight away, and because shitty kitty is an indoor cat and the other two are too lazy to venture further than the back garden I now feed them all on this, as it is specially formulated for my lazy indoor cats that dont get as much exercise as they should.
Yes it is a little more expensive than ordinary go cat, especially as I seemed to only be able to source the small box, so with three cats that worked out a lot, but now they do the 2kg bag, which i have seen in Asda and tesco recently, it retails at approximatley, depending where you shop;
98p for the small 375g
between 1.63 and £2.40 for 950g
2kg which I have found varying in price between £4.50 and £5.86
And because they are trying to advertise this at the momment you can pick up a free sample off the gocat website.
GO CAT COMPLETE.
I wanted to do a review on the NEW GOCAT COMPLETE ADULT DRIED CAT FOOD. this variety is made by purina
following on from the kitten food. This comes in a blue and yellow box, with the wording GO CAT COMPLETE, on the front.
Skye my two and a half year old half persian cat absolutely loves this dried food. Having tried her on cheaper variaties of dried cat food, she simply turns her nose up even if hungry. But with this product she eats every bit.
I prefer dried cat food for my cat, because it doesnt smell like the canned food, and comes out dry at the other end , which as my cat lives in a flat and have a litter tray is a bonus.
I usually buy the 375g box which at my local co op retails for 1.19p but i do know that you can purchase this cheaper in your local supermarket, usually around 1.00 a box. Two boxes lasts skye a week.
She particularly enjoys the tuna, herring and vegtables flavour. She is a bit of a fussy cat anyway and does not like any cat food with beef flavour in it, why i dont know.
This is a complete food for your cat, i always keep plenty of water in her bowl as this is a dried food.
It states on the box that this product is made with quality fish, which is recommended for high quality protein. It contains:-
It also has a freephone telephone number on the side of the box if you have any questions you might wish to ask.
I find the box is handy for storing in your food cupboard, and it also has a recloseable opening at the side.
This product has all essential vitamins for a healthy cat. It is high in protein which helps to support natural defences, which is a good thing to have. It contains protein for toned muscles including the heart.
GO CAT comes in kitten food for optimal growth, Adult food for optimal body condition. Senior for a long and healthy life. Weight control for optimal weight.
Skye really enjoys go cat it contains fish, meat and vegtables which helps to maintain a healthy diet.
As there is no waste i find it good value for money and also i like it because it doesnt smell like tinned cat food and also doesnt attract flies in the summer or dry up quickly.
'Go-Cat' is a trusted brand of cat food which is popular with pet owners. It was actually the first 'dry-food' (in the form of biscuit) to be introduced to the UK back in 1975, and the product claims to be "the country's number-one dry cat food".
The Go-Cat range includes products which are individually suited to your pets needs, these include;
'Kitten', which includes milk amongst the ingredients to help healthy bone development. This is available in 375g and 950g packets only.
'Adult', which has the following flavours; 'Tuna, Herring & Vegetables', 'Chicken, Duck & Rabbit', 'Beef, Liver & Chicken', 'Salmon, Trout & Tuna, and 'Rabbit, Turkey & Vegetables' - these are generally available in 375g, 950g, 2kg and 10kg packs.
'Senior', features 'Taurine' to promote a healthy heart and good eyesight, and general ingredients are included to aid digestion.
Go-Cat also produces 'Weight Control' and 'Indoor Cat' varieties of its dry food, with my cat seeming to especially enjoy the latter.
The 375g box of Go-Cat costs 90p from Tesco, which is excellent value considering the more expensive brands, e.g 'Iams', can be triple that price. For that reason, and because the cat enjoys them, I fully recommend this product. However, it's important to remember to provide your cat with enough water when they are on a dry-only diet, or they can easily de-hydrate (shameless plug for my pet fountain review...!).
Overall, Go-Cat is an excellent product which is tailored to your individual pets needs. (PS, I haven't really tasted it as my title suggests :).
I seem to go through buckets of the stuff. i have 2 cats of my own, but only one eats biscuits, but i feed a lot of strays, and they all seem to thoroughly enjoy it. It is much easier to leave out and about for them than tinned cat food, but i always make sure they have access to water.
Go cat is produced by Purina. A very large company in the pet food sector. Its been around for 75 years and makes cat food like felix, gourmet, prplan and purina vetinary diets.
Go cat not only comes in a variety or mest and fish varieties, but also ranges esp for weight control, indoor cats, and senior cats, as well as its standard and kitten range.
It contains taurine, which helps to promote healthy eyes and heart. Calcium and phosphorus for healthy bones.
Vitamin E to promote a sound immune system, and hence fight infection. They also say it contains a balance of minerals to maintain a healthy urinary tract.
I have read alot about the effects on cats bladders, but for many of these cats it would be this food or no food, and some of the other more suitable biscuits are very good value. i am sure most of the strays supplement it with home caught dinners as well.
Its good value for money, and for my slightly rotund girl cat, they now do a "diet version" which she seems to like.
All in all a good all rounder, if not perfect. We couldn't do without it
Friskies Go-Cat dry cat food is a definite favourite with our pair of Siamese cats. They are guaranteed to empty their dishes of this product time and time again. We have yet to try the moist food variety however, therefore my review is based upon the dry food in particular.
The Go-Cat range was initially launched in 1975 and is now the UK's leading brand in dry cat food. It is nutritionally balanced in accordance with the AAFCO Nutrient Profiles, which means it provides for the requirements of your cat throughout different stages of their lives.
It is packaged in a yellow box or bag depicting the name in red lettering and the unmistakably Go-Cat ginger cat. There are options to suit regular adult cats, kittens, senior cats and indoor cats alike. For a period of time however our cats were solely indoor cats and we subsequently used the indoor cat variety. This made one of our cats vomit, yet he had no problems with the regular variety which we promptly switched back to.
With regards to quantities there are four options. Go-Cat is available in 375g and 950g boxes or alternatively 2kg or 4kg bags. Flavour varieties include:
Duck, Rabbit and Chicken
Tuna, Herring and Vegetables
Salmon, Trout and Tuna
Rabbit, Turkey and Vegetables
Chicken and Vegetables
The cost of this product rather unusually varies quite a lot between flavours. However a 375g box will cost around 90p, a 950g box is around £2.15, a 2kg bag £4.39 and a 4kg bag £8.40.
We currently use two of the 375g boxes per week between our two cats and so overall this brand of cat food is cost effective.
I would recommend this product to cat owners.
The favourite dried food of my three cats is definitely Hill's Science Plan. However, to my slight surprise, they also like Go Cat, and indeed prefer it to many more expensive brands of cat food. THe major advantage of this brand is its low price - it's five or six times cheaper than Hill's, which comes in handy (especially if, like me, you have more than one moggie in the house).
Go Cat market a wide range of tastes and flavours of these biscuits, including one for 'Indoor Cats' - useful for me, since one of mine can't be persuaded to venture outside. I gather that it contains roughage that outdoor cats tend to get from eating plant matter - and it seems to work, since mine have stopped trying to chew the spider plant since he's been fed it.
The only thing that concerns me slightly about these biscuits is that, while they're marketed as a complete diet for cats, they're nutritionally poorer than some other brands (according to my vet, anyway). So I make sure mine get wet food, and other brands of dried food as well!
*What is Go-Cat?*
Go-Cat is a complete biscuit-type pet food for adult cats, it is made by the Purina company which also produces Felix, Winalot, Bonio and Bakers.
*The food itself*
The kibbles of Go-Cat are a bit larger than most other cat food brands, and look alot more of a 'natural' colour, where Whiskas looks like it is pumped full of colours and additives. The biscuits are shaped to resemble the flavour of the food.. eg. the chicken variety has chicken-drumstick shaped biscuits and the the fishy flavours have fish shaped biscuits. Go-Cat can be fed alone as a cats only food or mixed with tinned cat food.
Go-Cat comes in a yellow plastic packet which has the logo, and pictures of the food and a ginger cat. Also on the packet, is the flavour of the food and the lifestage the food is suitable for (kitten, adult or senior).
*Price & Availability*
This food is very easy to find, it is sold in most supermarkets and even small local shops. The prices for this food are:
I always buy the smallest size, which is the 375g boxes as I like to feed the food to my cat when it is still new and fresh. The bigger pack sizes are good if you have more than one cat, but otherwise they would probally go stale before you get to use it all.
*What my cat thinks*
I buy different brands of food for my cat Jet as he gets bored very quickly- he'll eat the same brand of cat food for a fortnight or so and then get bored and want something else. Go-Cat is a brand I buy for him quite often. Its the only dry food Jet will eat without a spoonful of tinned food mixed it, so he obviously likes it and it saves me money too as whilst he is on Go-Cat I don't have to buy tins for him too. It has a very crunchy texture so it is good for his teeth, and the larger kibbles take longer to eat, meaning he has to really chew the food, getting more enjoyment from it.
*Pro's & Con's*
+ Cheaper than other brands, such as Whiskas
+ Hard crunchy texture is good for the teeth
+ Larger kibbles take longer to chew
+ Lots of different flavours
+ All supermarkets and pet shops stock it
+ 5 different pack sizes available, so can be brought in bulk 10kg sacks if you wish or in small boxes like I do
Go cat do 5 different varieties of dry cat food with different flavours,
They do a kitten food.
This review is about the indoor cat food.
I have two cats one who is 5 and the other is 8 months , the older one likes going out , but the little one hates the idea of it and won,t go outside, i open the door and he runs the other way lol.
So when i saw this cat food in somerfield , i thought it would be ideal , it was on offer two 375g boxes for 1.25.
Normal price is around a pound and you can buy it from most supermarkets .
~ The cat food ~
The food itself are small in size and look like little balls and pellets , they are brown, orange and green .
The smell wasn,t too bad , not like some of the cat foods out there , it doesn,t smell like meat and its not a nasty smell its like a wholemeal smell, hard to describe.
It has tasty chicken and added vegetables , it also contains vitamins and minerals and is a complete cat food .
Alot of cats suffer with with water infections which can be really unpleasant and painful for them , this food contains a balance of minerals to help maintain a healthy urinary tract.
Also what i liked about it is it has garden greens in thats cats love to chew on these are olive , parsley and carrots.
Indoor cats can miss out on things they would normally do outside like chewing on the grass and roaming the garden to see what else it can find.
Some cats who are indoors a lot can be less active and this food has a balance of protein and calories to avoid unwanted weight gain.
Also some housecats tend to groom themselves more than others and will suffer with furballs, this isn,t very nice for the cat or the owner.
My cat has suffered before with them , this food has natural fibres to aid digestion and it helps reduce fur balls .
Also if you have a house cat you will no doubt have a litter tray and the smell sometimes although changed daily can be awful , this food contains chicory to promote digestion which helps reduce litter box smells.
This cat food helps your cats teeth and gums stay healthy as they have a good munch on them.
I liked this cat food for my cats as it gives them a balanced diet , and it also stays fresh and crunchy in there dish .
My cats really enjoy this food and happily munch away on them , i,ll definately buy this again.
Thanks for reading x
Most people on Dooyoo who know me will know that me and my partner recently acquired a kitten, a small tortoise shell bundle of fluff. She spends a third of her day eating, a third of her day sh*tting and farting and the other third of her day chewing the crap out of anything she can bite (including me). And no before anyone asks, she doesn’t sleep, how I wish, anyway, what do I feed to this little scruffy looking hyperactive feline? Well, we were advised by the pet shop lady when we bought her to keep feeding the moggy on the same stuff that she had been fed in the shop as changing her grub could give her the sh*ts (wise advice). Well, she had been fed on Friskies Go Cat so we have thus far kept her on the same food to avoid trickles of gravy all over the living room floor. Go Cat is available in a multitude of flavors from plain old tuna, chicken and beef to the more appetising menus like tuna, cod and carrots and game, turkey and vegetables. Sounds almost like human food doesn’t it? Ahem! Not. There are also different formats of the food you can get from the normal tinned supermeat, to Go Cat pouches in gravy and there is also a dried biscuit variety to add a little crunch to your kitties meal experience. They also do special menus for kittens, which are basically the adult versions, but in smaller pieces. ~~~~~~PACKAGING~~~~~~ Friskies Go Cat comes in either a yellow tin, pouch or box with the name at the top in bold red letters. There is a photo of a ginger cat on the front, GINGER? C’mon, out of all the colors that they had to choose and they choose a ginner. The packs claim to contain an optimal condition formula which gives your cat vitality (don’t ask). There is also a list of all the vitamins contained in the food to make your pussy a healthy one. On the side of the packs is a little picture chart helping you to recognise if your cat is healthy. The cans come w
ith a ring pull lid for easy opening, the pouches simply have a tear line to open and the biscuit boxes have a little hole that you poke through so you can pour on the biccies. ~~~~~~TASTE, LOOK AND SMELL~~~~~~ First off, you can all bollox, I aint tasting it in the interests of science but the cat likes it so that’ll have to do. As soon as you open the tin or pouch though, you are greeted with a rancid fart like smell that makes you wonder how the animal can actually stick its nose within three feet of the stuff. The supermeat (tin) looks like any normal cat food, (about as appetising as your average turd) but the gourmet pouches do look a little tastier and are formed into little bite sized pieces. Our cat likes them both so I’d say they must be tasty to a pussy but again, I aint trying any to prove it. ~~~~~~PRICE AND AVAILABILITY~~~~~~ The 390g tins of supermeat are usually about 53 pence but are at the moment on special offer at 45pence a tin. The single meal pouches are around 39pence a pack and the 375g boxes of biscuits are between 80 and 90pence. They are widely available in all supermarkets and most shops so obtaining a can is easy meat (sorry). ~~~~~~SIDE EFFECTS~~~~~~ The main side effects are that it causes your cat to fart for England, and trust me, they stink! ~~~~~~MY FINAL THOUGHTS~~~~~~ Friskies Go Cat is, judging by the heath of our cat and how bloody hard and sharp her teeth are, a very well balanced and tasty (to cats) diet. It isn’t expensive and is making our tiny little bundle of hair turn into a bloody tiger, I think that in my experience with kitties, only Whiskas is actually better as it doesn’t give you cat serious wind. Our cat has a shiny coat, purrs so loud you can’t hear the bloody telly and is as fat as a bacon pig so I thing she’d tell you that this stuff is quite good as well. ~~~~~~CONTACT INFOR
