NutriCat Adult Chicken
Advantages: availibility, healthy for cats
Disadvantages: boring, mine weren't impressed
My cats are not too fussy when it comes to food; since they were little I have given them a variety of brands and different quality of food. I did this deliberately so they did not become too fussy and awkward as I know so many people whose cats will only eat this and that and I already have a fussy fiancé so I don't need fussy cats!!
Well being a Bzzagent I got sent some vouchers so I got to try Nutricat, a veterinary approved cat food available from Tesco for free. I was quite excited as I love to add some seriously good quality food into my cats diets, (normally they get the upper end of the "standard brands").
When Mr Donnabroom returned home with the bag of Nutricat the little ones, as usual, were straight in the carrier bag with the food; purring and making a fuss so I decided to give them some even though they already had food open. I have to be honest the food looked really dull and boring; it's all boring brown and a uniform shape. I know from experience that the cats prefer food with a little variety of texture so I was disappointed at this stage.
All three of my girls had a good sniff and a little nibble but there was none of the usual purring or lip-licking that I get when I give them new food. They all went back a few times and eventually ate it all but it was clear that they weren't overly impressed. I mixed the rest of the bag with the food they already had and it all got eaten so they didn't hate it either.
I do like the idea of being able to buy veterinary approved food at the supermarket instead of buying online or visiting a vet/specialist outlet but for the money, (around £6.00/kg), I would want my cats to enjoy it more. I think if they tinkered with the recipe and added some different texture and colour my cats would be more interested.
Nutricat does come in several different varieties; tuna, chicken and salmon in the standard varieties and then tuna and rice for sensitive cats, chicken for indoor cats and they also do a kitten variety that isn't on the Tesco website right now.
All in all I think there are better foods available for your cats at the a similar price so unless one of my girls was poorly and needed a quality but bland food I don't think I would buy Nutricat again.
Summary: you can get better for the money
