      great healthy alternative cat food

I've been vegetarian for 16 years and recently turned vegan. On researching my foods I stumbled across articles on vegan pets and quickly introduced a vegan meat into my dogs diet. I'm still reading up on cats diets as they are more complex so I decided to try a vegan product out of curiousity, whilst still feeding my cat his meaty dry food. Here is our opinion...

Unlike my dog, my cat Bilbo was not curious to the new food parcel I brought in or to the fuss it was getting from our dog. The cat sausage is very similar to the dog product I reviewed just a little shorter. It has a meaty smell and look to it and is very easy to slice and chop up. It does say you can mince it in a blender for a finer texture and even add a few drops of Soy sauce to it. I opted to finely dice mine and put it on top of Bilbo's dry food like I would on a morning with his wet pouches.

Bilbo had a quick sniff and then tucked in to his food. He ate it in two goes which is his normal routine. He seemed very satisfied and licked his lips repeatidly. I caught my dog trying to eat the last mouthful but chased her off in time.

The swiss cat maxi sausage is available from vegusto.co.uk along with two other cat products, dog products and human vegan food. It costs £4.49 for 500g.

It contains;water, wheat protein (gluten), vegetable oils (non-hydr.), VegecatTM, spices, yeast, spices, rice starch, rock salt, VegecatTM: ascophyllum nodosum (source of arachidonate), calcium carbonate, dicalcium phosphate, DL-methionine, taurine, vitamin B4 (choline chloride), vitamin E (dl-alphatocopheryl acetate), zinc oxide, ferrous sulfate, vitamin A-acetat, copper sulphate, vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol), sodium selenite, vitamin B12

It has the following nutritional value per 100g; crude protein 26.6%. crude oils & fats 4.4%, crude ash 1.82%, crude fibre 0.62%, moisture 53.4%

Overall neither my cat or dog has experienced any problems in including vegan products into their diet. Both have ate it happily. The website delivers very quickly, mine came the next day and was refridgerated to ensure freshness. Againa, the product states it last 7 days once opened however I think it will last longer as it has no meat or dairy to go off.
