Advantages: Nice treat, keeps the kitten purring

Disadvantages: Expensive

On getting back from holiday, me and the other half went to collect our newest addition to the family, a very lovable, cute little black kitten called Bruno.....following this we decided that we both needed to stay home on Friday night rather than toodle off to the pub, so I was dispatched off to Sainsburys to buy some supplies for staying in!

Well, I was walking around Sainsburys, collecting a nice bottle of red, a few cans of lager and I decided it just wasn't fair to leave poor old Bruno out of Friday night drinks so I went off in search of a treat for him and stumbled across this Cat Milk and figured that seeing as we were drinking so could he!

**How much for a pint?!**
OK so the Cat Milk does not come in a pint sized bottle, more like a 200ml bottle, but still, you don't go the pub and order 200ml of beer! Anyway I digress....

As Bruno is a new addition, and we were still getting used to each other and to the food we think he should eat and what he thinks he should eat, I didn't purchase the multipack of milk as I wasn't sure how he would take to it, the bottles are available to purchase singularly, though at the hefty price of 85p (correct Sept '11 for a Sainsburys in Central London!) which would make me inclined to only ever buy this as a treat, especially as you only get 200ml and a pint of (human) milk costs only 49p!

**Confusing packaging, how much you get and how to store**
I would just like to mention, on our way to collect Bruno, we did stop at the supermarket to see if we could buy him some milk to help him settle into his new home, we were in a rush and only saw this Cat Milk, I think this can be somewhat misleading - as we didn't have chance to read the back we simply took for face value that as a kitten we would not be able to feed this to Bruno, it wasn't until I took some time to read further (and see some of the reviews on here) that I knew the Cat Milk was suitable for kittens over 8 weeks old. I think this should be made clearer on the packagaing, although I suppose there is then a market for Whiskas (et al) to then charge a premium and make more money by having a separate kitten range for EVERY product they hold.

The packaging other than that is very well branded with the Whiskas colours and logo, no chance of mistaking this milk in the fridge for human milk (though as I have read people do drink it in their tea!). A sturdy plastic bottle, that is recyclable, with a screwtop lid which makes for easy storing and pouring!

Each bottle provides 4 servings, a find I just tip a small amount into a saucer to cover the bottom, and this will be the correct amount per serving. Prior to opening the bottle can be stored at room temperature, and generally tend to have a long shelf life, following opening the milk needs to be stored in the fridge (like human milk!) and lasts for only 4 days, which is ample if you are giving your cat (or kitten) a saucerful a day.

**Why not human milk?**
Cats are actually lactose intolerant - and so you should not give them cows milk as this can actually upset their tummies, and I for one, would not want to clear up runny cat poop! Whiskas Cat Milk is only 0.2% lactose and so is specially designed for delicate tums!

**Bruno's Opinion**
Meow....when I see Mum opening that purple lid, I go a little bit crazy winding round her legs and purring to tell her to hurry up and pour me some milk, I am not the most patient of kittys!

She EVENTUALLY puts the saucer on the floor, and the milk is a creamy, yellow colour, and I get very excited and rush over to this and lap it all up as fast as I can. After I'm done I keep asking for more but she's mean and won't give me any, I don't know why, its not like you can have too much of a good thing is it?!

**Recommended**
As Bruno says, he loves the milk. However at 85p a bottle, this is one treat he will not be getting on a daily basis, I will keep it as just that, a treat for special occassions (or when I feel like giving him some extra affection) this will likely be kept as a once a month treat and Bruno the kitten can grow big and strong drinking water!

Summary: Once in a while treat, but not an everyday luxury
