Whiskas Cat Milk
Our ancient and decrepit cats began to look even more scraggy than she had been looking and so I thought I better try and get her a bit fattened up. She has always been very talkative and wakes us each morning with a chorus that can last hours but now she is deaf this 'singing; can go on all day long. As soon as she sees me it starts and she follows me everywhere I go in the house. Up till this year hse has looked quite sprightly but not only has she lost weight but she has undergone a personality transplant and she has gone from a cat that never stole anything to one who will jump on the kitchen side as soon as you look slightly away. She has jumped on the table and stolen my cereal while I walked across to get my cup of tea.
Apart from her stealing she has also developed other less desirable habits such as refusing to go out for her toilet so that we have to have a cat litter tray inside despite living in the country with ample toileting opportunity. If there isn't one she just uses the floor where she thinks it should be.
Despite this she is a very special cat and so I now spoil her ybuying Felix, Sheba and other stupidly expensive cat food and also this cat milk. This means I have to keep her stuff away from the others who only get Purina or Iams dry food and can't understand why ancient and grumpy cat gets this special treatment.
Why not just give her ordinary milk. Well the main reason is selfish in that when she has ordinary milk, even diluted in order that she is getting enough liquid, she gets the squits and as I am the one who has to clean it up I feel that paying extra for tiny amounts of this is worth it if I don't have to suffer the results of her drinking human milk in the litter tray.
The cost of this milk from Tesco was 90p for one tiny bottle of you can buy a pack of three for £2.25 which is a bit cheaper. The bottles are mall and each has only 200ml in it but as I only give her a small amount the three pack lasts a week. If you buy the single bottle then it comes as it with a foil seal on the top and an outer screw top lid . If you buy the three pack you get a cardboard outer, which is fully recyclable, holding the three bottles which are the same as the single one. The bottles are plastic and recyclable through your usual plastics recycling scheme once washed out.
The bottle are UHT treated so until they are opened they can be kept in a cupboard but once opened they must be refrigerated and used within four days which is not a problem for us. They say that a bottle has four 'servings' but I sometimes dilute ours and give her a little more often as she goes mad for it.
What is cat milk? Do they sit and milk cats? No, this is a mixture created to suit cats from cow's milk with added vitamins and other extra protein and 'inorganiuc matter' which I have no idea what but I believe it is for fibre/roughage. They reduce the lactose in the milk to less than 2% so that it is more digestible and better for cats and add more calcium and whatever they do seems to work as our cat goes mad for it. The other two do as well if they ever get a chance to get near it.
I have never been one to byuy special food and milk for our cats as they have always been moggies and eat what they are given but as our poor old lady gets older and more fragile I feel I have to do something. Her sister from the same litter died a couple of years back and suffered from diabetes which I think this one has too but I am not getting into injections I am afraid . She is very happy at the moment and spends her life attached to me either eating or sleeping and as far as I am concerned I want her to die of old age and naturally not having her life prolonged through drugs.
So I will continue to buy this cat milk as she loves it and it makes her happy and is good for her. At this stage in her life I just want her to enjoy her food and be comfortable so if this means buying cat milk and silly little tins of expensive cat food then this is how it will be.
The milk itself is pretty thick, about the consistency of evapourated tinned milk and also looks pretty similar too. It doesn't have any strong smell and sorry but I am not going to taste it even for the purpose of this review. Surfice to say the cats thinks it is yummy and sticks her head in the way of me pouring it out with the result that it sometimes ends up on her head or the floor as she butts me while pouring!
My son in Canada is coming back home for Christmas and keeps saying that I must keep her alive till he sees her again as he loves her. She has a very unique character and is almost human in the way she communicates with us so hopefully the milk and expensive cat food will do the trick and keep her going.
The milk mixture has been created by cat nutritionalists and vets to be suitable for cats and be good for them which normal human milk is not really. It has extra vitamins and minerals too to help balance any diet that may be lacking.
All in all I would recommend this milk for cat owners to give their pets if the cat is needing extra but not for young healthy cats as it is not necessary except as a treat occasionally may be but water is much better for them when young and healthy.
