Advantages: Smartstart has improved, extended support on HD-formats, vista compatilbe
Disadvantages: Becoming more and more a media-tool instead of a burning tool, where it stands for!
Nero 8 is probably the best CD and DVD burning program on the market. There must be said that Nero is having a strong competitor with roxio creator. If you are familiar in the world of burning cd's and DVD's, I suggest you to purchase Nero. In the other hand if it is your first time, I suggest you to try roxio.
Why to choose Nero?
- It is a company who has been developing software for a long time now. They are very good in what they do.
- They have rebuilt their Smartstart program, which is now very easy to use.
- They also expanded their burning program to a multi-media package: you do not only have a burning program, also a CD-player, DVD-player, Picture-editor, Some people like it, others don't. I think it isn't worth the money, simply because you have other freeware tools who are equally good or even better.
- They extended support for HD-formats: Blu-ray Disc en HD DVD, but also BD-AV, BD-J, BD-ROM and AVCHD.
- Fast Burning speed.
- Compatible with Windows Vista.
I use Nero myself because I think it is the best one on the market today. That doesn't mean that I am completely satisfied with it. I always ask myself why I need all those media-programs from Nero, even if I already have those tools in Vista or with freeware programs. This is why I am beginning to dislike Nero. I think they are more focused on the media-tools, than the burning tools. Either way, they are still the best on the market, but I don't know for how long this is going to last.
Overall opinion:
There is a huge battle between Nero and Roxio. If you want a total media package and you are familiar with it, you better choose for Nero. It has everything you need. Instead if you don't have a lot of experience you would better try Roxio because they are easier to use.
Summary: It is a good program if you want to pay a lot for the media tools that comes with it.

- 23/11/08 Having discovered CDBurnerXP, I wonder why anyone chooses bloated rubbish like Nero any more.
Sorry for the rating, but you don't give me a lot to go on here. This is more a bit of a ramble rather than a review, in my opinion. Sorry. |
