Advantages: All in one solution
Disadvantages: Slow, unwieldly
Nero 8 is a set of CD\DVD utiltiies that help you "Create, Rip, Burn, Copy, Share, Backup, Play". The only problem is, can't do all of them.
At £25 it isn't overly pricey but with free software available that does what it does why would you pay for this?
In part it's piece of mind, you get everything you need to ever burn to media and also to share your media, whether that be on the PC on your TV via the MediaHome software. Some worthwhile programs include the Video converter and the DVD Menu mkaing tool.
Unfortunately, despite the manufacturer creating a frontend application where you choose the most suitable action you want to perform - like "Burn a Music CD", the software can become overly complicated and difficult to understand.
Thankfully one tool Nero Express can take care of a lot of your tasks in a step-by-step process.
What's disappointing about the software is that it has become a behemoth of probably old code tagged on top of another, meaning the software can be slow and a burden on the PC.
In particular, the Nero Agent software runs on startup and sticks to Windows Explorer for no apparent reason - Well ok, the reason is so Nero's own media centre software knows what's on your PC. Unfortunately the media centre is slow and not well thought out.
Additionally, setup can take a long time to run (Even on a high end PC) whilst it installs lots of random rubbish and a little bit of
I would recommend the software to anybody who does not have the time or the inclination to look for the best program for a set task.
Summary: The right solution for those who just want to get their CD\DVD burning over and done with.
