How often have you contemplated that worst case scenario happening to the contents of your computer's hard drive? The scenario that all of your personal data is lost forever due to an event beyond your control. Due it an act of god such as lightning or a human error such as accidental deletion, the idea that all can be lost is enough to keep some awake at night. Nero Backitup & Burn attempts to offer a solution to this by allowing you to create back-up's of your data.
The biggest advantage to the software is the fact that it supports backup to virtually all types of media imaginable, including CD's, DVD's, Blu-ray disc, hard drives, memory cards, online storage sites, as well as ZIP and JAZ drives, ensuring support for whatever method you wish to employ.
The user interface may seem a bit daunting at first and it does offers a lot of different options, but is it well laid out and pretty clear with a calendar and drop down menus, so in practice it's not that difficult to get to grips with. Using the software was also easy and gives you the option of backing up single files, folders, or entire drives at once.
Thankfully both creating backup's and restoring from them was painless and surprising quick, Nero Backitup & Burn also offers the advantage of being able to schedule automatic backup's which if used can free up some of your own time.
Installation of Nero was straightforward enough, but was very time consuming as it required that MSI 4.5 and Microsoft VS PIA Redist to be installed before the software itself (presuming that you don't already have them installed.) The required several reboots and around twenty five minutes for the entire package.
Sadly the biggest flaw of Nero Backitup & Burn is the purpose that it was developed to do. Personally I can't really find the justification in having decided software at nearly thirty pounds when you can do the same thing without having it. It isn't much better than simply dragging and dropping whatever you want backed up to where ever you want it backed it up to, which is what I normally do.
While Nero BackItUp & Burn is an interesting software package, that heroically attempts to save guard the life of our data, I can't really find any real reason to recommend it to you. Unless you need the added device support or scheduled back up's then I'm afraid that there isn't any real reason to buy the software.
