Nero 6 is one of the older versions of Nero, but to me it does everything you will need anyway! There is lots of capacity to do lots of different things, too much if you ask me, but hey that's just my opinion.
So, what do you get: There are lot's of different applications within Nero, but I just tend to use the Express sections, basically they enable you to burn (for those not ofay with 'burn', it basically means an image of what you are trying to put onto a CD or DVD is literally burnt onto the disk via a laser!).
You can back up files, even whole hard drives easily within Nero, I tend to do this every year so if all goes pear shaped I have a pretty newish copy of my hard drive. I also burn all my pictures onto CD/DVD to keep a good backup too.
So, you want to backup that DVD you have, don't worry Nero will do it for you, it supports most Codecs (these are special codes that some videos are written/edited with), and with the help of Nero Vision Express, you can easily edit any video file.
I've found it particularly useful in converting video files to DVD so I can watch them on my TV. Although this process is slow, it is not the falt of Nero, transcoding video files takes a long time whatever editing software you use.
Verdict: So, my advice to any buyers is go for this software if you want ease of use and a useful tool to back up your files and rip/burn CD's, DVD and much more.
Downside: Not many really, this version has been superceeded now, but for my money does more than enough, infact too much, many of the applications I don't even use. Can be slow when transcoding large video files.
