Arcam Alpha 8: ... bought an 8SE as part of a setup that included matching an A10 amplifier and an A8 analogue tuner. These were all to use with my existing Pro-Ac Studio 100 speakers. Construction, as with all the Alpha range, is traditional simple, rather than elegant. Plastic dominates the proceedings here. While there is the feeling of fragility, nothing has broken in the 3 years I have had one of these. Yes, the front-panel b...

hvallian Naim CD5
... is currently Naim's cheapest CD player, which may come as a shock to some as it costs £1125. If you read Which magazine regularly you may come across an article claiming that CD players essentially all sound the same and you might as well buy the cheapest one. Their rationale behind this went along the lines of 'because its digital, even cheap players get all of the information off the CD'. Fortunately those of us who have heard different CD players know that they do sound different. Many of the differences are caused by the digital to analogue conversion and output stages in the CD players and a rather annoying thing called jitter. Having large am...

RogerP Arcam Alpha 7
... recently had the good fortune to aquire an Arcam 7SE at a very favourable price. So good in fact, that I figured I couldn't afford NOT to buy it. I wasn't looking for a new CD player, in fact I was perfectly happy with my Marantz. Neither have the rather dowdy old-fashioned looks of the Arcams ever appealed to me. So you can trust me when I say that I didn't run home, frantically rip the beast out of it's box, and listen in eager anticipation. In fact I set it up, spun a CD and settled down in front of the computer..... for about 2 minutes! Wow, why have those nice Arcam people been hiding this from me? The sound quality of this player, straight out of t...

Mike%26Dani Bose Wave Radio/CD
... is amazing. This tiny music centre is quite literally amazing. How so much sound comes out of such small speakers, only Bose seem to know. The build quality to is A1. The features are as you would expect to find on quality hi-fi separates, I run my Mini-disk player / recorder through the Wave too. It is so portable to, you can take the unit to another room just by removing the plug - try doing that with your hi-fi! I don't know what more to say - except if you are offered their 30 day free trial, don't except unless you want to part with £395.00 because you will want it when you hear it! But don't worry too much - they offer 6 months interest free cr...
