Advantages: clarity, discrete, matching!
Disadvantages: non
This op goes with my NAD C320 amplifier one!! They get used together, so please feel free to read both to get a fuller picture!! A perfect match to the afore-mentioned amplifier in style and colour, the NAD was an almost unconcious, pre-made decision. NADs entry level cd player, now superseded and available on the net for some awesome prices!! The 521i is the replacement, looks exactly the same, slightly dearer, but possibly not worth paying almost twice the amount my excellent 521 is now avaiolable for!! The NAD certainly looks nothing special, a dark grey finish, as is common with a majority of NAD hi-fi equipment. It hides on your shelf, being all conspicuous, with no hint of its presence except for a very discreet light blue display, and the green ' power on light'. But the sound that it gives to it's partnering amplifier, well, it defies belief. As with many sceptical people, I thought 'real hi-fi' components were for the fortunate, relativey well off few. How wrong!!! Take some advice, never, never buy an all in one music system. The sound that eminates from the NAD equipment is sublime!!!! It 'will' have you listening to your whole CD collection, in search of all the musicality you may have been missing!! Praise aside, obviously NAD have upgraded this unit, so even they have found a way of making it's entry level equipment 'better'. The remote is never used, once all set up and play is pressed, the only time I return to the NAD, is to press play again. The unit is solidly built, perfectly finished facia, easy to use controls, solid 'clicking' buttons, noiseless operation, I fail to find any cause for complaint. Music is fed to the amplifier, via Profigold interconnects. Hard to tell if this made a difference to the original ones. But its good to know that the signal, has next to no known impedence on its journey to the amp. fellie....
"Jill Murphy asked me to write about one of my favourite things to help her celebrate her fourth anniversary of cancer-free living and to remind ourselves of all the nice things in the world. It takes more muscles to make a frown than a smile you know. If you'd like to join in, whether you've only just joined dooyoo, or you've been here ages, you're more than welcome. Just write about one of YOUR favourite things, make your title "A Favourite Thing: [your choice]" and include this paragraph at the foot of your opinion. And post before Friday, 9th August."

- 08/08/02 My hi-fi system still has as its heart my NAD 7030 receiver (tuner/amplifier) - I bought it in 1979 for £138.
It's the genuine Japanese built product although designed by British firm New Accoustic Dimension, who later had a lot of their stuff built in Taiwan etc.
Although it's only 30 watts per channel it has 60 watt output transistors and can cope with overloads of up to 3Db without problems.
It also drives any loudspeakers you put in fromt of it.
It also sounds superb which was then one of the key points of NAD products - still is - whilst being of reasonable cost. |
