Not a bad little box (Philips CDR 951)

I was first a bit apprehensive about buying a Hi-Fi separate CD burner, I've had a PC unit for a while, and been brilliant, its good for backing up stuff, as well as copying CDs. Anyway I had about £400 to spend on a new CD player and saw the Philips CDR-951. After having a Technics SLPG 590 CD player for a while, this seemed like a step down. But I couldn't have been more wrong it’s fantastic. Just push a button for a direct copy, it also works on various formats even HDCD. Not only is the recording quality of the highest standard but the playback isn't as good as my old Technics. The range of sound is stunning. It has good overall reproduction, but excels in the extremes, with phenomenal clarity of bass.

The design is well set out with easy to use features and a clear and understandable instruction manual (which is hard to find these days). I have my unit attached to Cambridge A300 Amp and Eltax Liberty 5+ speakers.

I bought my CDR from Richer sounds in Watford, its a chain store with plenty other shops around the country. I would recommend that you buy a good pair of interconnects for the CDR don't stick with the one that you get in the box, their quality isn't that great.

Overall the Philips CDR951 is a quality piece of equipment at an affordable price and should be a welcome addition to any Stereo system.
