icarus Sony SCD-XB 940: ... been using the Sony XB 940 for about 6 months now which has given it plenty of time to settle down. Playing CD's the machine gives a fairly refined version of the typical Sony sound. Base is powerful but controled, mid range is good but the top end "could try harder" The overall balance is both involving and easy to live with. It's not a sound which stands out in a 5 minute audition. It d...

Sony CDP-XE 330
... A fader function provides automatic fades at the beginning or end of tracks, and the output can be adjusted down to -20dB, but the last two operate on the analogue output only. The optical digital output (there is no electrical equivalent) is unaffected. The remote control is a simplified version of the 'stick' remote that comes with the senior models, and is similar to most recent Sony handsets: it handles well, is a clear design and is a little more ergonomic than some. The player itself is a flyweight, and no better built than you'd expect at the price - but at £100, who's counting? Sound Quality The Sony was received surprisingly well for...

... bought this to match all of our other Sony separates and complete the system as we all ready had the Home entertainment Amp/tuner, Tape deck and Video. The whole system looks real nice because it all matches with its black finish. Most modern systems are made in shiny chrome/aluminium finish which I find looks a bit naff. The black looks lore defined. The system is a single CD tray froont loading system that can play random tracks, repeat and obviously lets me tape tracks to put in my Car. It fas all of the functionality of a normal CD player and comes with the build quality and sound quality that you would expect from a Sony product. It has a digital display tha...

Sony CDP-XE 330
... Sony '330 CD is almost at the bottom of the pile for their CD decks (basically, it's a '220 with a supplied remote control included. The '330 is a very basic machine and if you are serious about hi-fi, I'd spend a few quid more on some of the higher spec machines which have more controlable features, other than the basic "open drawer, put CD in and then play it". One single optical output as well as the standard phono outs make this piece of kit very basic but being a Sony, the sound quality is decent but the casing is a little bit too big (it must use the same chassis as the '530 and others) as the buttons and other controls lo...
