Aopen CRW 5224:
... NO! MORE EXPENSE! BAH, HUMBUG!! Funny ol' world innit? Only a few days ago, I was wondering why my Yamaha 8424 IDE CD-RW wouldn't work, cursing at the fact that it was a 'good' one when I bought it, costing somewhere in the region £160 three years ago. When you start to add up everything technical that's gone wrong recently, like my £350 Sony DVD 525 player, which lasted just three years, yo... Aopen CRW 5224 ... is a reliable drive available at a very good price at the moment at (www.dabs.com). I purchased one just a couple of months ago, have used it to burn many cds since then and i have no problems. Easy to install & easy to use. I've burned probably 60-70 cd's on it so far and had no problems with the drive itself, only with pc memory and system resources etc. The main negative observation i have is that it does eject cds rather quickly, this could lead to a wearing down of the open and closing mechanism over time. I think its better to have a slower, smoother motion. Overall, it's a decent drive, however, there are better models in it's class. Bo... Read the full review: Good Value for money! by Lizzad |

Teac CD W548E ... bought this drive to upgrade on a TEAC W254E that gives good performance and reliablity, being attracted by the better speeds offered. The installation was no problem initially but although the performance was promising, the drive caused frequent system crashes and hangs, refusing to eject discs unless rebooted. The TEAC helpdesk was totally useless in fixing the troubles and it now lives in a box in the loft where it will stay until I bin it finally. Later, having read a U.S. magazine review, I learnt that this was a list of faults they had found and assumed would be fixed when it went on sale. The original drive is now refitted and doesn't give any problems. ... Read the full review: Hiding to Nothing by dcoward1 |

HP Surestore CD-Writer Plus 9150i ... recently picked one of these CD Writers up for my home computer. After using a friend`s Writer for some time, I decided to purchase my own. They are a really great idea. I use mine to make compilations of my music from my MP3`s. You can also use them to copy your original software to make back ups, NOT for illegally pirating games you understand. When choosing one for use at home, I decided to opt for a brand name writer because I have heard bad things about cheaper writers. Hewlett Packard were recommended to my by both the shop staff and friends as well as hearing about them before. My Writer reads data from the CD at 32 times speed. This Is quite quick compared...
