... am happy with my CD-RW now, but it took weeks of fiddling and several return trips to the store where I bought it to get it working properly. The helpful sales assistant at Comet actually installed it for me, then swapped the software disk as it wasn't working properly, eventually swapped the CD-RW itself as it was still behaving erratically. HP Surestore CD-Writer Plus 8210e ... environment such as the one I work in, Im constantly writing fixes and new releases for large applications. The fixes are normally bigger than the capacity of a Floppy disk (1.44 Meg) so I have to find alternative ways of getting my software from my development machine to the areas they are needed. So what a blessing in disquise a CD Writer is. It has the capacity of large files (Over 600mb) and allows easy ways to trasport for installation (CD Roms). Here at work, we needed a reliable brand that was not going to start costing us a fortune in Badly copied disks. Iomega ZIPCD ... zip drive, so I could have bought one of those. However, it would have cost £50 or so just for an external zip drive, and then the cartridges are expensive enough to think twice about sending them around. With a writable CD drive, you get the choice of using CD-R's which can only be written once, but only cost about 25p, or a CD-RW which can be written to in several different sessions but cost about a pound. The nice thing about a CD is that just about every computer will be able to read it - PC, Mac, Unix, whatever. Plextor Plexwriter 12/10/32A ... Features You may be curious to know what 12/10/32 means, here you are: 12 - means the writer can write at a maximum speed of 12x, which is a full CD-R in under 6 minutes (I timed it)!! The discs are CD-R (write once only) 650Mb, 74min, you can get 700Mb which work fine on this writer too. 10 - means the writer can write on CD-RW discs, at 10x, just under 12minutes. You can write over and over with these discs. 32 - means the writer can read (CD/CD-R/CD-RW) discs at 32x, which isn't too bad, the highest you can get is 52x.
