Advantages: Great CD Burner, brilliant package

Disadvantages: Fitting if you have never done anything like this.

In today's modern computers, a CD Writer is an essential bit of kit.

Files, applications and programs today have grown from the 1.44Meg limitations of a floppy disk into giant multi-Meg sizes and require more storage space. That is where a CD rom steps in.

Im a systems developer and require mine daily to take things to and from work. The applications that i update at home are needed during the day so I just burn what I have done that night down onto a CD rom. Perfect.

What I needed was a fast reliable CD Writer that offered great performance but at a price that suited my pocket.
That is where my LG CD writer stepped in.

Its an internal CD Rom drive which means you need the following.
A spare 5.25inch drive bay (standard CD rom size)
A spare IDE socket on one of your IDE leads that go to the motherboard.
A spare Power socket from your power supply.
A bit of general know how on fitting PC parts.

If you have never ventured into removing the cover of your machine...why not? Its not that scary.
Anyway it comes with a really good fitting and user manual anyway so you cant go wrong.

Its performance is rated as the following:
32 X Speed Reading Data
8 X Speed Writing Data
4 X Speed Re-Writing Data

32 speed reader is not really that quick when you consider I have a 52 X Speed CD rom drive as well as this one. The difference is that there are not CD Writers on the market that currently match the CD Rom Drives solely for reading.

8 Speed Writing is about industry standard nowadays but I dont use it at that speed. I have lost a few disks burning at that speed. I find burning at 4 speed quick enough and also more reliable.

4 Speed Re Writing is brilliant. Im not sure of the difference between writing once and writing many times but I presume it takes twice as long to rewrite because it has to erase the old data first.
There are not many Rewriters that per
form at this speed and I have not had a failure yet (touch wood). Even if i did I can just re-record it.

As for where to buy it, I have to say, I bought mine from PC World although I will never set foot in there again (read my opinion for the numerous reasons!)
The deal I had was quite good.
For £99 I recieved:
1 LG CD Writer,
50 Blank CDs,
1 LG Re-recordable CD Rom
1 LG Recordable CD Rom
That is good value when you consider its roughly £150 for a Hewlett Packard CD rom on its own. I have one at work and its exactly the same quality and burn quality.

The LG Package at £99 is saving you £51 straight away. But wait, there is more...
you get a copy of Easy CD Creator 4.2 and DirectCD 3.01 thrown in. These are priced at £25 if you buy separately from PC world.
You are also getting £50 worth of blank CDS,
£3 worth of Re-recordable CD from LG and £1 worth of recordable CD rom from LG.
So that is £79 worth of extras.
So you are making a grand saving of £130!!!
Bargain.

What are you waiting for???
Buy one before thay all go!

Great op! They're still available in Makro for £59.95 & VAT which is why I came to this particular category to see what people's opinions were on it as such a bargain! Unfortunately, I think I'd have to pay someone to instal it for me as I don't fancy taking my PC to bits!!
