Advantages: Cheap & effective

Disadvantages: Software is useless

Yet again an unheard-of make shows what a total rip-off most of the output from the major name electronics manufacturers is. A basic yet surprisingly effective, and most importantly, affordable alternative in this market. As with most PC components nowadays, the quality and effectiveness of Windows plug and play has made installation almost too easy, and the internal insrtallations is pretty simple too. I have used mine A LOT over the last 2 years or so, and it just laps it up and comes back asking for more, so reliability and durability don’t seem to be a problem. The actual operation can be a little noisier than I would like, but not much more than I’ve heard from supposedly better brands.

The software supplied with it is fairly useless, and amazingly complicated to work, hardly worth the CD and little bag it comes in, in fact, then again Windows can handle most of the stuff for creating a data CD with simple drag and drop functions, and Windows Media Player or the free version of Real Player will write any music tracks or files you wish to use, so this has not been a huge concern for me. If you really want proper dedicated tools for these functions, the money you’ve saved by not buying brand names will help towards purchasing additional software.

They claim it is up to 52x speed, my experience is it’s probably not all that realistic to expect it to do this, then again I’ve never had a drive that could perform at or near it’s max speed all that often. It will however regularly clock 30x-40x writing, and well over 40x when reading.

The CDs produced are good writes, and I often play them in the car and experience very few jumps barring the biggest of potholes, but I get that with purchased original CDs too, so I suspect it’s the car radio that’s at fault.

The spec is the following

Read speed : 52x
Write speed : 52x
Rewrite speed : 32x

Overall the quality of this product can hardly be faulted in comparison with any standards. Factor in the cost, or lack of it, and this is simply outstanding.
