A quick tour around PC World will tell you it is more expensive than other writers (typically, my local PC World don't stock the Plextor) but the extra investment is well worth it. Plextor PlexWriter 12/4/32 ... is the cd writer i own and the also the only one i have ever owned. For me it has proved to be an invaluable investment. CNet, PC World and PC Magazine have singled out the PlexWriter for its speed, accuracy and ease of installation (an important consideration for an internal IDE drive)i also rate this as one of its major pluses. What really sets it apart, though, is Plextor's "Burn-Proof" technology, which eliminates the buffer underruns that can turn music or data CDs into expensive coasters. Plextor Plexwriter 12/10/32A ... I agree this is the best CD RW device which i have come across to date. It burns relilable at 12x onto unbranded disks, and onto to CDRW's at 10x speed, but alas for me this is limited to 4x speed as the majority of my CDRW disks are old. This unit does however need a fast processor and harddisk combination, and the computer to be defragged regularly, as even though it does have the burn proof technology (licenced from sanyo) which is meant to prevent buffer under-runs. it doesnt always do so, especially if you have loads of stuff on your drives and they are fragmented.
