Hiding to Nothing (Teac CD W548E)

Advantages: None Disadvantages: Biting the bullet and chucking it
I bought this drive to upgrade on a TEAC W254E that gives good performance and reliablity, being attracted by the better speeds offered. The installation was no problem initially but although the performance was promising, the drive caused frequent system crashes and hangs, refusing to eject discs unless rebooted. The TEAC helpdesk was totally useless in fixing the troubles and it now lives in a box in the loft where it will stay until I bin it finally. Later, having read a U.S. magazine review, I learnt that this was a list of faults they had found and assumed would be fixed when it went on sale. The original drive is now refitted and doesn't give any problems. Summary: |
