Yamaha CRW6416SZ

Description: 6x 4x 16x SCSI-2

... of buffer memory build in, so very few CD making sessions go wrong. I have only ruined two CD out of around three hundred, at that was because I wasn’t using the correct settings. You won’t be disappointed if you buy a Yamaha Re-writer along with a Adaptec SCSI card, but make sure you go for the SCSI version – it may cost a little more, but it will be worth it. The fact that it will cut down on ruined CD’s will pay for itself. ...more

Premium Review Yamaha CRW6416SZ: Yamaha Re-Writers are excellent. (240 words)

I can’t speak highly enough about Yamaha products as a whole, and their range of Re-Writers is no exception. I bought a one of the 6416s series and it has been excellent. I chose the SCSI version and not the IDE because of problems I had heard about concerning the way IDE works in this area. Having looked around extensively, I found a great deal at Insight. I bought the Re-writer and an Adaptec PCI SCSI card to connect it to my motherboard. SCSI is much quicker than IDE and when ‘burning’ a CD that is important. You should get all the software you need included. Everything installed itself in Windows 98 and I was up and ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review A good product - but does it last (263 words)

I have had this product for quite a while now so this is definitely an extended test review. Instaling it was easy, adequate instructions came with it. The software was very adaptec and very easy to install and use also. I have been using CD writers for years and generally don't bother with re-writable too much. Personally I prefer to buy a blank CD for about 30pence each and then write once and keep it safe. So I do not use the rewriting features of this product. For a while the drive worked fine and I was writing about 15-20 CD a week. But after a while it developed an annoying high pitched whine which does tend to get on your nerves ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Yamaha CRW6416SZ: No complaints here! (127 words)

We had to buy a new CD recorder when our Ricoh was giving us so much trouble that we sent it back and got a refund (unfixable errors when it was 11 months old and we got our money back!!). We really only wanted something cheap but we happened to come across this machine being sold as ex-display, no box or instructions for £99.50 brand new!!! Not bad ,huh? It's a scsi which seems to be the better option nowadays and we have had no trouble with it at all. It's reliable, copes with most brands of CDR including the cheap ones and we rarely get errors with it. If you can get one cheap, it's a good buy. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Great (120 words)

An expensive peice of kit but it more than does the job. After having this product for a little less than a year, I am quite pleased with it. The 641S is a 6x writer, 4x rewriter, and a 16x reader. It operates on a SCSI-2 bus, which if you did not know, is a lot faster than your ordinary IDE bus, but requires a separate controller. After mastering a number of different types of software I now believe there is not alot that this machine can not do but for mode 2 software I advise that you lower the write speed to two speed. I was dubious at first but would now recommend this to anybody - buy. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Yamaha CRW6416SZ: Yamaha CRW6416S CD/CDR-W (237 words)

After having this product for a little less than a year, I am very pleased with it. The 641S is a 6x writer, 4x rewriter, and a 16x reader. It operates on a SCSI-2 bus, which if you did not know, is a lot faster than your ordinary IDE bus, but requires a separate controller. The swift 6x writing speed can burn a 74 minute audio cd, or a 650mb data cd, in ~12 minutes, which is very fast. I have burnt over 300 cds so far, and have not had ONE problem from the unit. It can burn DAO, single tracks, multi-track cds, which include both data and audio on one cd, and virtually every other kind of CD. The one thing that I wish it had that it doesn't, is CD-TEXT ...  Read the complete review
