Advantages: Flavour and taste is great, good price, easy to digest

Disadvantages: This maybe to dry for some as it is very dry

We kept the New Year quite low key, we had a couple of friends over, put on some nibbles and offered out some drinks. None of my group of friends is big drinkers and I would comfortably say that none of us know our wines that well so I didn't feel under any pressure to go out and get a bottle of expensive bubbly to see the New Year in with. The drink that we did have was a bottle of the Cloudy Bay Pelorus. This is a drink that is from New Zealand and I saw it on offer in my local branch of Tesco so brought a couple of bottle with New Year in mind. Here are my thoughts on the drink.

The wine will cost you around the £19.99 mark if it is at full price but I was fortunate enough to catch it on offer and it cost me just £14.99. The drink is a sparkling white wine and as I mentioned, I found it in the Tesco supermarket but I am sure most of the other big supermarkets stock it as well. The wine in my opinion is not a bad price, especially if it is on offer.

The wine comes in a tall glass bottle, it is green glass but you can clearly see the wine through the bottle. There is a label that goes around the bottle that has the Cloudy Bay name and the Pelorus name as well as the fact that this is a Brut drink. On the reverse of the label is information on the Cloudy Bay brand, ingredient listing on this particular drink and serving suggestions. The drink is described as being from a Chardonnay dominant blend of selected vintages and that this is a fresh sparkling wine that has apple flavours backed up by a nutty complexity.

As I mentioned at the start of this review, I am certainly no specialist on wines but it sounded lovely and crisp and it had the added fizz that we wanted. On a rating of 1 to 10, this is rated as a 2, with t1 being very dry and 10 being sweet. To open the wine, you just need to pop the cork of and the wine is ready to be drunk. As it is a white, it is best served chilled and it has a volume of 12.5%

The first thing that I noticed when taking my first sips of this drink was that it was very crisp, I actually found it quite refreshing and not to bitter. The wine had a very dry flavour, but not one that I could say I disliked. Far from it, I found this to be a great drink and it went really well with the nibbles. The fizz was not to overpowering and it was very easy to digest. I was really impressed with the quality of this drink as for such a low price, I think it had a very expensive taste about it.

The drink was one that I would be happy to recommend and it is also a good price. I loved that there was the crisp flavour of the apples coming through and that it was fizzy so it didn't taste to dry. I think I prefer this to a really sweet wine as for me it works really well. Although difficult to explain, I also get what they mean about the nutty flavour to the wine, it is there as a very mild after taste.

4 out of 5 from me on this one

Thank you for reading

Summary: A lovley sparkling white wine
