I have drunk champagne in the same way as most other people do and like most alcoholic drinks I know what I like but don't know all the correct terminology for the different flavours and tastes that are in the champagne. An example is that Mumm describe this as creamy but I don't understand how a thin fizzy drink can ever be creamy.
This champagne has got a nice fruity flavour, it's a little bit more bitter than most champagne drinks I've had but the taste is full and very pleasant. The bubbles are very fizzy and that makes each sip taste a little bit sweeter than it really is, the most obvious thing about this champagne is the way the taste lingers in my mouth for a lot longer than others. I'm not sure if I like that or not because that makes this like cucumber, where you think the taste is disappearing but really it's still there and is just waiting to reveal itself again. My mum said that's a sign of a good champagne but she doesn't always know as much about things like this as she thinks, I remember drinking from a bottle of champagne that cost a lot more money than this one and it didn't linger for so long as an aftertaste so I think she might be wrong about that.
We drank our champagne in flutes with nothing added to make longer drinks or cocktails, champagne might be a very exclusive drink but I don't think it's as tasty as other sparkling white wine and this one made by G H Mumm would definitely never rank as a favourite drink of mine because of the bitter flavour that lies under the bubbles and also the way the taste of it lasts for such a long time (such a long time that it starts to taste stale and sickly in my mouth).
If you have a celebration or big day coming up then you definitely could give Mumm a try, it's one of the most different champagnes I've drunk recently and I would say it has a unique character not only in the flavour of the drink but also the design of the bottle because I think that looks classy and unusual.
A 75cl bottle costs £33 - £38 depending on where you buy it from and the alcohol content is 12%. I only had two glasses but even those made me feel a little bit tipsy because of all the bubbles and my head felt very bunged up this morning even after such a small amount, I wouldn't like to drink too much of this champagne because I'd be worried what my health would be like the next day!!
A true classic with a unique character and irreproachably consistent taste, it's name alone conjures up a whole world of flavour. All the richness and finesse of the Mumm vineyard is expressed in Cordon Rouge. In the late nineteenth century, this champagne was decorated with the famous red ribbon, as a tribute to the Legion d'Honneur. In their new finery the bottles were presented to Mumm's best customers. The decoration became the hallmark of one of the world's most renowned champagnes, Mumm Cordon Rouge!
