I first encountered Perrier Jouet at afternoon tea at Oulton Hall which is a 5 star hotel in the north of England. We had a glass of the belle époque and the bottle was so beautiful it captured my imagination, it was covered in beautiful flowers. Raving about the brand to my boyfriend led him to buying a bottle for my birthday. Unfortunately, the ever thrifty chap chose the cheapest of the brand's wares and it does not have the flowery bottle. It is a still a delicious drink though. Perrier Juet have been making champagne in Epernay since 1811 and is a very prestigious brand.
==Price and availability==
The cost of the champagne is £37.99 - £39.99. You can buy it from Odd Binns, Waitrose and Sainsbury's. The champagne is averagely priced for a budget bottle of champagne.
==Description and flavour==
The bottle is green and standard in look and feel, it holds 75cl and it comes with a cork. The champagne has a much heavier taste compared with other champagnes and it also has a yellower colour. I like the flavour; it is sweet, rich and slightly citrus. I have two lovely vintage Perrier Jouet glasses to drink this champagne out and they are not shaped like the usual flutes. The champagne tastes lovely out of these!
From the bottle you get around 6 glasses of champagne. I used a bit of peach nectar to make bellinis out of the rest of the bottle. I liked the flavour of the champagne alone but I found it heavier than others and for this reason I liked to make it a little sweeter with the peace juice.
You can not go far wrong with a bottle of Perrier Jouet as a present but I was slightly disappointed with it. The Belle Epoque was so wonderful and delicious, that I expected all their champagnes to taste just as wonderful. I was wrong but it still tasted nice. I do not think that I would rush out to buy this one again though, it did not have the wow factor. I am no wine connoisseur but I can tell what I like and don't like. I would definitely buy it if it was on offer but for full price, I would choose a bottle of moet instead. When I made the champagne into a champagne cocktail the heaviness of the drink was offset by the sweet peach juice and they worked really well together. I love cocktails and champagne ones are my favourite.
Founded in Epernay in 1811, the house of Perrier Jouet is known the world over for its high quality champagne and its prestigious vineyard. Its Grand Brut is pleasant and elegant, with subtle aromas. A very light, unusually fine champagne.
