      Buy it

My nan likes to buy different products for us to try. This was on offer in Sainsburys are 2 for £2.50 or individually at £1.33. Tesco is currently selling it for £1 though.

It comes in a 200g plastic pot that comes with a lid to help keep it fresh for longer. The pot is silver in colour and when you take the lid off, you get the normal piece of foil to remove before you get to the product itself. It also has a picture of basil leaves on the lid. The product does contain milk so it is not suitable for people with allergies to milk.

A serving size is recommended as 30g so you do get quite a few servings in the tub. A serving will give you 44Kcal, 2.4g of protein, 1.2g of carbohydrates which is all sugars, 3.2g of fat of which 2.1g are saturates, 0.1g of fibre and 0.1g of sodium.

My first impression was that the tub was much more substantial that the old design and I found that the Philadelphia used to go mouldy quicky with the old tub. We have had this open in the fridge for over a week now and it is still fine. When you peel back the foil, you can see the creamy cheese with loads of green specks of basil. The pieces of basil are a good size. When you eat it, the basil taste hits you first but it is nice and not over powering. If it manages to stay in your mouth long enough, the taste of the Philadelphia hits you and you can taste the creamy cheese. When you swallow the mouthful, the cheese coats your throat in a pleasant way and you are left with the aftertaste of Philadelphia. I added a large spoonful to a bowl of freshly cooked rice and mixed it in and just ate that which was a pleasant, low fat and calorie meal for my lunch which I found filled me up. I can imagine that this version of the creamy cheese would be lovely on a jacket poatato as a different filling for a change or on a savoury bagel. It is soft enough to be able to spread easily whilst still being able to keep a thick layer of it. I was pleasantly surprised by this and will eat it again.
