Philadelphia Light With Garlic and Herbs......
I don't tend to buy this Philadelphia in the Garlic and Herb flavour and have always stuck to the original one as I find it more versatile. However on this occasion because Morrison's have them on offer for 60 pence for tub I decided to buy both the original flavour and this garlic and herb one to see what it was like.
The tubs come in various sizes but the one I have purchased was a 200 gram one and paying the 60 pence I do believe it was a half price offer so normally you would look at paying just over the £1 price for it. I think the half price deal is exceptionally good because these little tubs can really do a lot of lunches and indeed are worth the money.
The packaging of the Philadelphia is rather nice and instantly recognisable as the Philadelphia brand. The tub has an easy to pop off lid giving easy access to the spread inside but I have found that the lid will often be difficult to get back on. This however is not a major problem and it will eventually click back into place.
The spread inside the tub looks just as you would expect a cream cheese with herbs to look in the fact that it is a creamy white colour and speckled with green flecks of herb. The smell coming from the Philadelphia is rather nice in the fact that I can smell the cheese and the garlic combined with a mixture of light herbs. This smell is not overly strong and is just enough to make it smell appealing.
The cream is easy to spread and does have a nice thick consistency. This is much thicker than say Primula cheese spread and it stayed on my bagel today even though it was extremely thickly spread! The taste of the Philadelphia is rather nice. It is not like any other cream spread that I eat as Primula has a completely different taste and texture. Philadelphia has a far thicker and perhaps drier texture but this is still very tasty. The garlic and herbs work well with the mild taste of cheese. The whole flavour of the spread is not in the least strong or overpowering and this, for me, makes for a nice sandwich filler or bagel filler especially when a nice slice of tomato is added for a bit of extra juice.
I have also been told by my mother that she had a lovely bit of pasta the other night where for the sauce she heated up this Garlic and Herb Philadelphia and it turned to liquid form so she could easily use it as a sauce. This to me sounded delicious.
All in all I think for the half price deal that I got it for it was a total bargain. I have already used the original Philadelphia tub up to go on a topping for my courgette cake (the best cake in the world) and this garlic and herb flavour one has not got much left in it. It is very tasty and I shall have to get another tub or two before the offer ends.
I think a good score of 4/5 stars for this cheese spread and a good recommendation.
Many thanks for taking the time to read.
I do hope this has been of some help/interest to you.
Summary: a nice versatile cheese spread
