Advantages: Fast food for unhealthy people
Disadvantages: Too much sugar and more packaging for landfill
I've heard people say that they've bought these while shopping because they're low in fat. The fact that they're full of sugar doesn't seem to register. Nutritional info can be found on the base. Read it if you care. Believe it if you want to. But like most things: eat too much and it'll make you fat.
There seem to be four varieties of Philadelphia Splendips: Thai Sweet Chilli, Chives, Cheesecake and Nachos. Each Philadelphia Splendip comes in a container with three compartments. One side of the container provides the thing for dipping - such as a dried biscuit, and the other side consists of two further compartments each containing either the cheesy mush or gooey condiment. The container is sealed with a peel back foil lid. Someone with an art and design degree must have spent hours thinking of this triplet style plastic packaging. Do we really need to wrap up cheese so much?
I can imagine some people getting hooked on these because of their sweet and spicy taste - the Thai Sweet Chilli variety certainly falls into this category - but for me they are too sweet. I also don't feel comfortable eating over packaged and over processed food. I can't imagine that there is much nutrition to be had by shovelling these into your system. They're not wholesome and not natural and will probably make you constipated and have you walking round like a pregnant duck if you eat them everyday.
They are convenience food for people with busy life style... no there not... they are convenience food for people to lazy to make a sandwich or toss a salad.
The product can be found at Asda and Tesco and generally sneaks in at just under a £1. Although those on a diet will probably buy 'two for the price of one' on special offer.
Summary: Goo in a tub
