“ Brand: Sainsbury's / Type: Cheese „
I actually deliberately went and found this product after reading I Am Joy's reveiw of the same. I really liked the sound of it and thought it seemed almost too good to be true to be able to buy a lower fat version of one of my favourite products which did not cost the earth and tasted good. I owe some thanks therefore to Joy for introducing me to a product which has become a staple in my shopping trolley and which I am unlikely to deviate from in the future. This mozzarella is packaged like any other, in a small plastic bag which contains the milky water which keeps it fresh and moist as well as the rubbery ball of cheese itself. This half fat version costs only 79p in my local store which I do think is a bargain. Frequently with low or reduced fat versions of such products you pay a premium for the privilige but not so here. The fat content here makes for better reading than it's full fat cousin; for this version half the ball contains 110 calories and 4.6g of saturated fat compared with 153 calories and 7.5g in the basics range full fat mozzarella. Not a great variation in calories but a few grams in sat fat makes a difference as far as dieting is concerned! So, I bought this product with the intention of making lower fat home made pizzas with it. I find that half a ball is the perfect amount for one dinner plate sized pizza and so I buy a pack of two bases, a jar of tomato based sauce and a ball of this cheese and then get creative! This enables me to calculate the points value of whatever pizza I create. Half the ball of mozzarella is equal to 3 points. I was so impressed with this from the very first time I used it. It looks, feels, melts and tastes like a full fat version. In fact I would go as far as to say that I would be hard pushed to taste the difference if I was asked to tell them apart. For me this product does exactly what it says on the tin, it performs equally as well as a full fat version, tastes just as great and is a bargain price. For anyone on a diet or trying to maintain a healthier lifestyle I would highly recommend switching to this product to save yourself some calories and fat. Great product and very hard to find fault with.
I came across a recipe I wanted to try recently which called for reduced fat Mozzarella, I didn't know such a thing existed but a trip to Sainsbury's proved me wrong when I found a half fat version in their Be Good To Yourself range. The Mozzarella comes in 125g packets, which was ideal as my recipe called for 90g so I had some left over to make a low fat pizza. I was surprised that it was only 80p as I had been expecting to pay more for this product and this price is a real bargain in my opinion. The cheese itself is excellent, the only differences I noticed between this and the full fat version were that it didn't have such a creamy consistency and there is a slightly milkier taste to it. Also when cooking under the grill this mozzarella doesn't brown as well as its full fat counterpart, this isn't a problem for me but those of you who like your pizza with that delicate burned flavour might find it lacking. It chops and tears nicely, I found this cheese to be a little springier than the ball of Mozzarella I most recently used but this doesn't make it any harder to cut - although slicing it does get a little messy! I used mine to stuff chicken breasts and the leftover was used on a quick and easy pitta bread pizza. Encased in the chicken it melted beautifully and blended well with the sun dried tomato pesto I was also using, the Mozzarella stayed pretty much where it was and didn't slide out of the chicken parcels which is a nuisance for me as I have a foible about fillings leaking out of food and it always puts me off my meal. The pizza worked really well, better than expected if I'm honest. As you probably know I'm following the Weight Watchers plan so mixed some passata and tomato puree with some dried oregano and spread this over a pitta bread. On top of this I placed some torn Mozzarella, sliced tomatoes, wafer thin ham and pineapple and grilled it until the edges of the pitta went brown and the Mozzarella melted down. It was a delicious low calorie pizza which satisfied my craving for something naughty. Comparing the nutritional values of this Be Good To Yourself Mozzarella to Sainsbury's standard, this half fat version is very angelic indeed. 100g of standard Mozzarella contains 22g of fat, of which 15.4g are saturated fats. This is cut to 10g of fat in an equivalent weight of this Be Good To Yourself version, and that is 7.4g of saturated fat. As you know it's the saturated fat that is terribly bad for your arteries and overall health so this is quite a saving, although the figure is still a little too high to indulge too often. I shall certainly buy this whenever I need Mozzarella in the future, when you're dieting you need all the helping hands you can get and this cheese is definitely that and will help me to slash my fat intake.
