      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Attractive enough for the cheeseboard, tasty and inexpensive enough for everyday enjoyment.

I'm a cheese-a-holic, and one of my favourites is Roulé, a French cream cheese flavoured with garlic and herbs, that is hand rolled into a sort of swiss roll shape, and sold in slices. A 125g slice of Roulé costs £1.25 in Sainsburys, which I think is good value. It comes in two versions, a full fat and a low fat version - in this review I'll be reviewing the full fat version, which, although naturally higher in calories, I find to taste the best.

What is it about the taste that I like. Well, once the Roulé is spread (on toast, crackers, or bread) and bitten into, there is a very deep creaminess to both the texture and the taste that I find really luxurious. Combined with the flavour of garlic, which is strong without being overpowering or having any of that raw garlic burn, it's a really pleasant mellow flavour.

The cheese is a sort of dry soft cheese - it doesn't have that wetness that allows it to be spread very thinly, but personally I do think this is better only roughly spread and left quite thick. I do find the look of Roulé, in it's swiss roll presentation, very snazzy, and it's a very smart cheese to have on a cheeseboard for visual purposes, but tasty and inexpensive enough for regular consumption. I also like to enjoy this mixed in with the pulp of a baked potato, or stirred and melted into hot pasta.

This full fat version is, like many cheeses, something to be enjoyed in moderation - it is red on the traffic light scheme for both fat and saturated fat.

Overall, a lovely light soft cheese with a delicious mellow flavour. Not my favourite cheese, but certainly one of them, 4 stars.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Worth every one of its huge amount of calories and grams of fat!

I am not the biggest lover of cheese but I do enjoy soft cheese, so when I saw this French Roule with Garlic and Parsley on a buy one get one free offer in Sainsburys, I found it hard to resist!

The RRP is £1.09 for a 100g tub, so when on this offer its only a bargain 55p!

I found the cheese rather mild- the strength rating on the packet is 2.
It is creamy and tasty and worth every single one of its 88 calories, 8.2g fat (5.5g saturated fat) per 30g serving! (2.5 weight watcher points)

Do not even attempt to buy this and eat in moderation because one little portion will lead to another and another until the whole tub is gone- along with a box of crackers or crusty loaf!!

The garlic and parsley flavours are strong but not overpowering, the garlic is more dominent than the parsley but the combination works very well together.
It taste similar to the philidelphia garlic and herb but a MUCH better version, a much fresher, nicer taste.

The consistency of the cheese is quite textured- although it is classed as a soft cheese, it is still thick and quite crumbly.

This cheese is suitable for vegetarians although not suitable for those with an allergy against cows milk.

The shelf life once opened is only about 3 days, but I have yet to make mine last that long!

I would definitely reccommend this cheese to anyone who likes garlic. If you are not a lover of garlic then this would not be the best option for you.

I would even suggest to those who are not the biggest cheese fans to give it a go as its not overly cheesey (which could be a bad thing for some people).

The packaging is a simple see through, plastic tray with a peel back film to open- unfortunately this film is not resealable but cling film does the job well.

I put this cheese in fancy little pots on my cheeseboard at a recent party and so many people commented on how lovely it was ( I kept the fact it was on offer in sainsburys for 55p a secret!)

Definitely worth buying even at full price!
