Britax first class Si car seat
We brought this car seat in ready for when my little girl outgrew her car seat which was part of the travel system. It took plenty of research as I do with other items I buy, but this in particular as it is my daughter's safety at stake.
When I told a friend I wanted the rear and forward facing for safety (more on this in a bit), she told me to go to Argos and get a cheaper make for about £40.00, but there was no way I was going to put my daughters life at risk.
This car seat has won different awards, and after reading plenty of reviews, I decided this was the one, and Britax are a reputable company for car seats.
The Britax first class Si is a rear and forward facing car seat so it perfect if you don't buy a travel system for your newborn baby and want a pram and a separate car seat as this one is suitable from birth.
It is classed as a 0+ car seat meaning from birth to 13kg for rear facing and up to approximately 4 years old on forward facing. However forward facing is only suitable from 20lbs and/or 9 months for safety reasons as the neck muscles of a baby aren't strong enough to cope in an accident, so the longer a baby can stay rear facing the better it is.
The car seat.
Fitting it was quite straight forward once we had mastered the instructions. They were a little bit on the hard side to get your head around them, but once we did it was easy.
We have an Audi and the seatbelt fits around the seat on rear facing, but I know from experience you have to be careful on different car models and that some won't accommodate rear facing, like my mums Fiesta, so check before you buy.
While it is on rear facing I do find it ever so slightly difficult to get my daughter out of the car without banging her head on the door frame, as there isn't much space to lift your baby over the car seat and out, but I have been told this becomes easier on forward facing.
The other issue I have with it is the harness can be quite difficult to put on around my daughter, especially when she has her thick jacket on, and trying to adjust the straps while it is rear facing can be tricky....again I have been told by others this isn't an issue on forward facing, and I suppose my daughter is 9 months now. (she isn't 20lbs however to go forward facing)
My daughter has fallen asleep in the car seat quite quickly which means it must be comfortable; she certainly does look comfy in.
I can't wait to get it into forward facing, so she can look out properly, and so I can get her in more easily.
I got this car seat for £109 instead of £129.99, and extra boots points and free delivery, so I thought I got a bargain.
All in all I am very happy with this car seat and would definitely buy another one for baby number two.
