Advantages: Lightweight, Hard-wearing, Easy to use
Disadvantages: Quite expensive, Accessories are pricey and not included
I bought the Britax rock-a-tot 6 years ago when my first child was due, and we're on to our third now, with the car-seat still going strong! The rock-a-tot is lightweight yat sturdy, and even after 6 years, I still haven't seen a lighter one. That's important when you're lugging a not-so-little one around! The handle is not difficult to manage, but there is a knack to it - if you rest the front part of the seat against your leg the handle can be manoeuvered single-handedly. The straps are very easy to use. Even my father managed to strap the baby in without instructions and that's saying something! There are three different levels for the straps so it fits from tiny baby until quite large. There is also a head-hugger to provide better support for the teenies who don't have good head control yet. The cover for the seat is easily removed and washes well, which is just as well because when I enquired about getting a replacement cover for baby number three, I was told it would cost about £27 and I didn't think it was worth so much money. There is a small amount of wear-and-tear on the cover but it isn't bad at all. With two other small children, life is quite hectic, so this time I decided to invest in the Britax Classicale Sport chassis; the Rock-a-tot fits quickly and easily onto the lightweight chassis for the ultimate in baby-trasporting convenience! It was really good value for money too - I paid about £80 for the chassis. I think we paid around £55 for the Rock-a-tot but that was 6 years ago. It now retails for around £70. It IS expensive, but I think it's worth the money. Firstly, because it has survived the rough-and-tumble of three kids and will still be OK for number 4, and also because being a group 0+ car-seat, it lasts until well over a year, although baby number three seems to be fed-up of facing rearwards so we might move her sooner. Most importantly, the seat confo
rms to all the highest safety standards and I trust it to protect my baby. (We are using it for our third child, but I'll just put a reminder here that if ever a car-seat is involved in an accident, it should NEVER be re-used).
