Having a 3 year old, I have had a few car seats. We started off with the baby one and moved up at 12 months a forward facing car seat, but recently my 3 year old is just too big and the straps on her previous britax just were not long enough. My daughter is quite a petite 3 year old and doesn't weigh the reccommended 33lbs or 15kg, so I needed a car seat which would suit our needs. After looking about at all the usual websites like Britax's own and babies r us. I then went out to the shops to investigate the Cruiser Plus carseat from Britax whose car seats I had used previously. This Carseat was suitable from 9 months - 6 years approximately. But when choosing a car seat you should go by the childs weight and this car seat reccommends the weight should be 9kg to 25kg. It is a carseat which is light in weight and is strapped in using the diagonal seat belt only. It has a special locking gude which you put the diagonal belt into in an easy way and then use the movable headrest to adjust the height to suit your child. The unique locking system ensures that the belt is placed over the childs pelvis correctly. The moveable headrest ensure that the seat will grow with your child. Personally I would not use this car seat from 9 months as I feel that a young child needs to be strapped in using a 5 point harness, but as my daughter is 3 cand can sit properly and behave I had no quarms about this car seat. A childs safety in teh car is important so therefore I would reccommend this car seat is used from 3-6 years of age! I went to Mothercare where these car seats were £54.99. I knew I had seen them cheaper and decided to pop into Toys R us where they had a design which my daughter liked which was a denim material with a teddy on it. They were retailing them at the time at £34.99, a bargain. But they didn't have any in stock. So we headed to halfords where they had the car seat in stock at £49.99. Not as chea
p as Toys r us but at least they had them. The seat just slips on to the seat where you want it to sit and can be easily transfered from car to car. I like the fact it is easily transferable as it means if my parents take my daughter, I don't have the stress of trying to fit the big bulky car seat into their car and if we are going anywhere with someone without a car seat it can easily go with us. The only thing I have found that you have to watch is that you tighten the seat belt tight enough but not so tight that you strangle your poor child. BUt if you adjust the headrest to the correct height the seat belt should not bother them. You can buy these car seats in a variety of colours if you shop around, as different retailers stock different ones. Check out www.britax.co.uk to check if this car seat will fit in your car or to see what they have to offer in the way of car seats. My daughter's opinion on this car seat as she is the one who uses it is..... "I just love my car seat Mummy!"
We bought this car seat upon the recommendation of Which? magazine as having done well in crash tests. At first we were reasonably happy with the seat. It is very easy to use and lightweight. However as a number of other reviewers have found, our baby was able to easily wriggle out of the seat. It seems to me that it is no good having a seat which does well in crash tests if when you have a crash the baby is no longer strapped in. This is a particular problem when there is only the driver in the car and the baby in the back since it is not possible to closely monitor what he is up to. We have now had to purchase another car seat to avoid this problem and feel pretty aggreived that we wasted money buying this seat in the first place.
This is a wonderful car seat costing about £100 from Toysrus. I have two of them ( I was so impressed with the first that I bought another!)My youngest two children are 5 and 7 and still fit comfortably in the seat with the full harness and back rest. The back will later come off to make a booster cushion. What really impresses me is how secure they are once fitted even using a lap belt which is important to me as my children often travel in a minibus which has only lap belts. There is no side to side movement at all once tightened and this is very easy to do.
I bought a Britax Super Cruiser a few years ago before I had kids, so that I'd be able to ferry nieces and nephews around if I wanted to. I've since had a couple of kids and started to use it for my 2 1/2 year old toddler. Its very easy to fit, seems fairly comfortable, and was given a reasonable safety rating by Which. However, its absolutely useless if your toddler decides they are bored with sitting in a car seat, as they can remove the shoulder strap in seconds and then get out of the lap strap if they thought hard about it. For this reason, I've got to buy another seat with an integral 5 point harness. Its not particularly safe to have to keep checking the back seat to see if the seat belt is still securely fitted. Its a pain to have to stop to refit it every few miles.
This product by britax is a must for all you parents out there! We bought this seat last year because we were all about to go on holiday to cornwall which is about 8 hours drive from our house. We wanted our daughter to travel in comfort,so we decided to look around for a good quality seat for her. We ended up in halfords and it was a job to find one that would fit in our renault. The staff were very helpful.A nice lady suggested the britax model and she took us outside to fit it for us.She even put my little girl inside it and asked her what she thought even though she was only 3 years old. This make of car seat fits most cars which is good to hear for us parents. It is so easy to install using a 3 point seat belt. For extra comfort the head support moves up and down to suit your childs growth. Britax have made this seat versatile and has a lovely design.I found that the seat was very light to carry, portable espesially if you want to change it from one car to another. Its so nice to know that my child can travel in style, comfort and most of all safety! Good value for money. I would recommend this product to all you parents out there as it is suitable for children 9 months to six years! My son will need one soon and we will be buying him the super cruiser too.
Why moan about the price of a VERY GOOD CAR SEAT the Britax range of child car seats is excellent, both my kids have had them and they stand a lot of wear and tear, my two have been known to sit in them with their wellies and leggings on!!. The covers wash very easily. Also the value of a car seat is nothing compared to the value of your childs safety whilst travelling in the car. We travel a lot in towns and on country roads as we live on a farm and I feel safe with my kids sitting in their Britax car seats. Yes you can buy cheaper car seats, but they don't last as long and you may end up spending more money than if you had bought a good car seat like Britax. Also a lot of other car seats can be recalled for a fault with the straps or other things. Take my advice buy one of these seats, you can even buy them by mial order from various catalogues.
What a lot of money for a piece of moulded polystyrine!! It is far too big for my 18 month old. It gives him too much freedom. He could also wriggle out of it. No doubt it will be more suitable when he is older, but they shouldnt advertise it for his weight. It is a 3 point seat belt method so restriction is limited. Why so expensive though? Too be honest, this product compares to a booster chair. I would recommend waiting until your child is about 2 years old (depending on how big they are for their age).
We use two of these seats and would be about to buy another if my son wasn't about to become 5. They are lightweight (so if you think about it, the child won't have a heavy seat also trapped inside the seatbelt with him/her if you should have an accident.) This also means that they are very easily transportable, from car to car, or to carry for a distance (not with the child in it you understand!). They are usable form 9 months of age until around 6 years, which means they are great value for money. They are fully padded and comfortable and if your child falls asleep in the front you can tip the passenger seat back slightly to make them even more comfortable. The chair fixes using the normal shoulder belt restraints but isn't for use on only a lap belt. The chair has side impact head rests and my children are all very comfortable in it and they range from 1-4. I really recommend this seat for it's value for money and especially if you use more than one car. (by the way, if you open a new catalogue account, it could cost you less than if you bought one from Mothercare!!)
With my second child we bought a Britax Cruiser, which was a moulded polystyrene seat, which uses the normal three-point seat belt, as the harness for the child and the seat. The seat was just the right size and it looked very comfortable. After she grew out of it, I started using it for my nephew. I looked after him while his mum went to work. After two children using the seat it became very worn looking, I search and search the shops for a new Britax Cruiser replacement cover, there were none available. The only replacement seat cover I could find was for a Britax Super Cruiser. I thought it would be ok to use the seat for my third, but on a journey home one day, when there was only her and me in the car, I heard a ripping sound, my daughter was pulling all the stuffing out of a hole she had made and was eating it, which I didn’t think would be very health. So I went straight to the nearest Hallfords, and purchased a new seat. I purchased the Britax Super Cruiser. The only problem I found with this seat is, after a little while she started to escape while I was on the move. My third daughter does not have a very big build, and was able to just slip out from the seat while still belted up. Dilemma time! I went to my car manufacturer for a quote for a properly fitted seat, and they quoted about £180. This was well out of my price range, so it was time to rack my brain. My Dad and I came up with a harness, using a pair of normal walking reins. The walking strap was fitted through the back of the seat, where the runners for the adjustable headrest go, and fasten at the back using a large safety pin. You just clip on rein harness when ever need, for example on a long journey. I feel a lot happier knowing she cannot escape.
Safety and value for money were the most important considerations I had when looking for a car seat for my daughter. She was about a year old when we realised that she was getting too big for her first car seat. Baffled by the sheer numbers of different car seats on the market, I went to the library to do some research. If you go to the reference section of most libraries, they should have back issues of Which? magazine. I looked up car seats in the index, and soon found out that the Britax Super Cruiser came top in the testing. Now that I had found the right seat, I needed somewhere to buy it. I bought mine from ToysRUs, where I got £10 off, because it was the end of the range for that season. I liked the pattern on the cover anyway (navy, with little lady birds), and it was a good price. I have been very pleased with the seat so far, in fact I have now put it up in the attic in case we have another child, the cover is in good condition, it is washable, and easy to install in the car, and to take out. This was an important factor, because her grandparents look after her a couple of days a week, so the seat needed to be simple to move from one car to another, and easy for anyone to fit with little knowledge of car seats.
I have to agree with Lonnie and Nix, this is a great little car seat. It is so light and easy to swap from car to car, after lugging 'Rock a tots' and the 'freeway' between our cars, this is just bliss. It weighs next to nothing but still gives good support and the gadget for adjusting the seat belt height is great, you can sit the seat belt in exactly the position you want over the child's shoulder. The cover just zips of for washing, we've had ours for over a year and there are no signs of wear and tear yet, despite being clambered over buy a small boy with very dirty boots. We got ours when Harry was 2 1/2 and I think that was about right, I wouldn't put a child much younger than this in one.
I cannot rave on enough about this product as I have found it to be all I expected and more in a child's car seat. Firstly, Britax claim that it will fit most brands of motor vehicle. I have heard no end of horror stories where parents have bought a car seat only to find that it will not fit in their car(s). My husband and I both have Fords and am pleased to report that we haven't experienced any difficulties. The seat is as light as a feather so easily transportable when the need arises. I found that my son was getting into all sorts of funny positions while in his first car seat - the rock-a-tot. Now he barely moves at all which is reassuring. There is also a play tray that you can purchase for an additional cost which has proved to be invaluable. When we put his toys on it, he can bang away to his heart's content. Most importantly though, my baby looks happy and contented which says it all really!
We use this seat as a pop into different cars seat and as a extra seat in our own car for friends kids. It is a lovely light and easy to adjust seat that fits well to any child as there is a little head adjuster that regulates the seat belt so the child does not get the belt straight into his/hers ear. I would not feel comfortable with a 9 month old in the seat I feel it is better used for a slightly older child but for a child off around 1 to 1 1/2 I would reccommend it highly. It has a easy come of cover and as it is light it is easy to travel with. My child seems comfortable in the seat, as does 3 other children that I on a regular basic drive around. Only drawback is some children find the seat belt easy to get their arms out of but that is quickly curbed by a firm hand from you about not budging a inch until they are sitting properly strapped in. All in all a good versitile and nice looking seat
