I bought this booster seat some time ago and I have to say it is one of the better booster seats I have purchased. My kids both loved it for its comfort but also especially for its pull out pockets which were constantly full of knick knacks they would take with them on the journey. The only problem I had with it was that it was quite wide for the back of my car. It wasnt really a problem unless I had a car full.
The booster seat is aimed at children roughly from 4 to 11 yrs old from around the 15kg weight mark upwards and both my children have used it and find it very comfortable to sit in. I was always a bit worried as it doesnt look overly comfortable although more comfy than some I suppose but my children were always keen to sit in it. Graco are a good make and I bought it knowing that my friend had one the same and she had actually recommended it to me. Nonetheless I still checked out reviews online before I made my purchase.
It is very lightweight and not too cumbersome to transport to and from other cars if need be and the arm rests are a perfect height for my 5 year old. He loves the seat because he sits upright, has more freedom than in his previous 3 point harness and has the arm rests which make him feel important. The cupholders are a lovely idea and they are occasionally used for drinks but as I said earlier their favoured use is for bits of twigs or sweet wrappers and goodness knows what else!
Finley is 3 but rather on the tall side, he had outgrown his current car seat so for safety reasons it was time to purchase a new one. He is a big boy and likes his independence so I thought he would benefit from a booster seat rather than another car seat. This gives him more freedom whilst still ensuring that his safety is paramount.
CHOOSING THE RIGHT ONE
There are a lot of things to consider when buying a new car seat. It needs to be:
- easy to strap the child in, and easy to get them out of course
- guarantee the safety of your child.
I was in my local Mothercare and spotted this one; I have had a few Graco products before and was more than happy with them so I assumed this would follow suit. I asked the shop assistant for some information; I think she may have been new because she really couldn't tell me much about it at all. So I decided not to purchase it at this time and do some research of my own first.
I think this product must be quite popular because it seemed to appear on every website I visited. This means that it's very readily available for you to purchase. This met many of my specifications so seemed like an ideal buy. I spotted this on the Halfords website for £14.99, they also provide a free demo on the fitting of all child car seats. I wanted to ensure that I would be able to fit it correctly as some of these car seats can be surprisingly tricky to master. So that weekend I went into my local Halfords, and was given the demo, and purchased this from there.
ABOUT THE SEAT
Like previously mentioned this did meet my specifications but I will take this opportunity to give you a more in-depth description.
This sits in the car seat group 2-3 and is suitable for children aged 4-12. As I stated earlier Finley is just 3 but very tall and above the minimum weight requirements which is 15kg, he weighs 17kg, so although the age slightly differs he fits in the seat snugly and looks far more comfortable than his previous chair.
The seat is made from a durable plastic, and is very lightweight. I and my mum share this seat for when Finley is with me, and when he is with her. It is easy transported between cars with no problem at all.
The seat is thickly padded and Finley has never moaned about being uncomfortable whilst in it. The design of the seat slightly differs from the dooyoo picture. The seat is black with red trim, rather than red with black trim as shown above. The seat cover is machine washable, which is great because Finley tends to enjoy a mid journey snack, which results in the seat being covered in his foods remnants. This is comes up very clean and fresh after washing, it dries quickly and we're ready to go again for the next journey.
The arm rests are adjustable for extra comfort. Also allowing movement for when your child grows. On either side of the booster seat are retractable cup holders. I haven't seen this on any other seat whilst I was searching for one, but I think it's a brilliant addition. They hold Finley's beaker perfectly and we've not had one spillage yet, for long journeys these have come in very handy. I like that they can be pushed away when not in use, as they could get in Finley's way if these were a permanent feature.
I was glad that I got a demo for the fitting of the actual seat. This made sure I was doing everything correctly because you can never leave anything to chance where safety is concerned. This is incredibly easy to insert. It connects using the in car seat belts. There are red seat belt guides on either side of the seat; these guarantee that the car belt sits in the right position for the child.
I have had no reason to question his safety within this seat; he fits in snugly and looks very comfortable. The seat belt sits fixed in place, it's neither too tight nor slacking, meaning Finley sits securely. The actual booster seat does not move about in my car at all. The safety of this seat is truly top notch.
WOULD I RECOMMEND?
I would definitely recommend this to anyone out there. It's light and durable. Easy to transport. The cup holders are a very welcomed addition with Finley. He sits comfortably and safely in this seat. For the high standard of product I expected to pay much more than the £14.99 price tag, this is also available with a Lightening McQueen seat cover in Mother Care, but this costs £25.99. I simply can't fault this; it's perfect for all my needs.
