“ Manufacturer: Graco „
When my granddaughter was born I was given a car seat for my car by a friend as she knew I'd no doubt be offering to take the baby out in my car to give my daughter a break. She was right and this beautiful pink Graco car seat was used regularly until my granddaughter eventually became too long for it and I had to replace it with a more junior sized seat.
This Graco Snugride Infant Car Seat looks beautiful, it's a pale pink colour with brown and darker pink flowers decorating the fabric of the seat which is ideal for a baby girl although obviously if you're having a boy this car seat range will have suitable colours and designs for him too.
The first thing I noticed was that this seat comes in two parts, there is the normal car seat chair which you will probably be familiar with but this also has a separate base unit which is fixed permanently into your car and then you simply need to slot the seat into it and push down until it locks securely in place.
This is a clever design as these first size baby car seats are very awkward to fit into your car when baby is asleep in it, I always find that I'd have to twist the seat to such a degree to enable me to secure the straps around it that it couldn't have been very comfortable for my granddaughter! This Graco seat however is perfect, the base was very quick and simple to fit with the seat belt sliding through a series of hooks which made it incredibly stable and secure whether the seat was in the base or not.
The seat itself fits into the base like a glove and when they are fitted together you can barely tell that they are two separate components as it is such a tight and seamless fit. I have complete confidence that this backwards facing car seat would protect my granddaughter should I have an accident or have to stop suddenly.
Features of the seat include a comfortable five point harness which when adjusted to the correct size will keep your baby secure in her car seat, the straps are easy to adjust so you can get them just right to fit your baby who is obviously not a one-size-fits-all standard!
There is also a head hugger, through which the top two straps are pushed to keep it in place and make it the most comfortable you can for your baby. My granddaughter always seemed extremely comfortable in her well padded car seat and when she was old enough she would roll her head so the side of the head hugger would act as a pillow and stop her little head from flopping around.
Another thing worth mentioning is the fact that this Graco Snugride has an excellent carry handle attached to the sides of it, this handle will easily push backwards when not in use. In fact the instructions stress that you must push the handle backwards while the seat is in use in the car, I'm not sure why as it looks ideal for hanging a toy from to give baby something to look at while on a journey. No matter, if it says the handle must be pushed back then it must be for a reason. The carry handle is very comfortable to hold too as it has a rubberised grip in the centre so even when my granddaughter became heavier the handle didn't dig into my hands, this rubber doesn't make the car seat look cheap either as it's an attractively coloured rubber which goes beautifully with the overall design of the car seat.
I can't recommend this first car seat highly enough, it's good looking and extremely comfortable for my baby granddaughter and was since the day she was born. The seat is highly padded with a good quality material which causes no irritation for baby and is also machine washable, I've washed my seat cover several times on a low heat and it always comes out of the machine spotlessly clean and looking as good as new. This is important when you have a very young baby as they tend to leave small trails of white sick wherever they go, so a bonus to be able to wash the seat cover which will dry quickly over a radiator or on the line.
I have looked around on the internet for a price for you, but can only find them in American stores which is a shame. I know my friend bought this one originally from a shop in London and paid around £45 for it so it might be worth having a look offline before paying shipping fees from the US. If you decide you'd like this and want to buy it now however you can buy it from drugstore.com for $99.99 but please be aware you will also need to pay for international delivery.
