“ Manufacturer: Mamas & Papas / Type: 2 in 1 Car Seat „
I bought this car seat after trying in the Mamas and Papas store. Our little girl didn't appear too uncomfortable and from safety point of view it appeared one of the best. From the safety point of view it has good safety aspects, really cushioned and comfortable. Our little one enjoyed going to sleep anf felt cosy.
I thought of leaving a review just because I wanted to make parents aware of some really bad things when your child is around 18 months old.
1st thing that really annoyed me was when the child is sick in the seat sometime. The cushion that is used at the front when child is 9-18 months approximately gets wet and you have to leave your child wet with a really dirty or wet cushion at the front for the rest of your jouney.
The second thing I want to emphasize on is when your child is big for the cushion and you think of removing cushion and use the seat without cushion at the front. Our child is now nearly two and I stopped using cushion but using just the car seat to secure the child doesn't make
child secure enough when the child is sleeping even if when the seat is reclined because only one strap of the car seat goes through child's one shoulder and when the child goes to sleep because the belt is loose the child fells down. I'm so annoyed again with this cons and therefore to be honest are going to change this seat with something more secure and really wanted to make parents aware of this.
I hope this will help most of the parents as there is no point of calling it safe if your child is not secure when sleeping.
I loved the look of this car seat when I was out looking for the next stage when my Daughter was 8 months old. I was very excited to own one of the new designs of harness (well a none harness system) - as I think there is only one other brand that offers a similar design of a protection pillow rather than a harness fastening.
What I thought was a great selling point was that it was a seat that we could use from 9 months to 11 years of age as it is a Group 1,2 & 3 seat when making the slight adjustments as per the instruction manual. So even though it costs £180, I thought it would be worth the investment in the long run.
Description as printed on Mamas and Papas website:
- Crash pillow replaces the need for a harness, absorbing energy in the event of a front impact, as the child's upper body rolls over the protection pillow, avoiding any friction and strain on the critical neck area
- Adjustable protection pillow means your baby is always comfortable and not confined
- Reclines into sleeping position with no need to re belt. Also can recline while the child is in the seat as they fall to sleep
- The three position headrest allows your baby's head to be in a safe and comfortable sleeping position
- Seat insert allow the seat to grow with your child, and increases leg space under the pillow as your child grows
- Linear side impact protection locks the sensitive head and shoulder area protectively in the safety zone of the child seat
- 11 position adjustable back rest
- Easy installation with adult seat belt
- Quick release base when using seat as group 2/3
- Machine washable covers at 30 degrees
What I did not research first was whether it would fit the seatbelts in my car! Unfortunately, the rear belts in my brand new Ford Focus meant that my Daughter was confined behind the pillow when I did her up. Plus I had to really push down to click the seatbelt into place.
Had I researched this before buying I would not have bought the Pallas 2 in 1 - however, having purchased an extension for my seatbelt from Ford - the seat now fits.
Another hurdle I had to get over was that my Daughter kept pushing the pillow away when I tried to put it into place as she was not used to something that seemed to cover most of her torso. She has to raise her arms completely for the pillow to fit into place.
I feel that she was too big for her baby car seat and a little too small for this car seat. It is something that she has now got used to and rarely protests when being put into it. Having a forward facing view far makes up for the pillow in her way as she loves to watch ahead of her.
At the moment my Daughter has the seat inlay on the seat and the back rest at it's lowest point - however as she grows the inlay can be removed and the back rest can be lengthened in height. The headrest can also be adjusted in three points and when she moves onto the next group category, the base under the seat can be removed and so can the protection pillow - when a much older child would only need the adult seatbelt across them.
I can only comment on the daily use of the group 1 seat but have taken the seat apart to demonstrate groups 2 and 3 and the seat is very easy to adjust.
In summary, I would recommend when buying a carseat that you try it out before you buy. I saw customers trying this carseat out whilst shopping in Mamas and Papas and was not aware you could do this, so really wish I had.
Overall it is a lovely seat and she certainly looks more comfortable in it now that I have bought a seatbelt extension. Before this, she looked squashed and I could not even use the recline mode! It really is an innovative idea but I guess it would be better if slightly smaller in dimensions to fit all cars!
