When we first starting looking at car seat for our babies and how to fit them into the car we decided pretty quickly that we wanted an base that fit permanently in the car that we could then clip the car seat too so we didn't have to worry about re-attaching car seat belts around the seat. I had read up on it and the Maxi-Cosi Easyfix base seemed the best way to go as it provided a solid steady base that would not move around and would keep the car seat nice and safe.

We purchased a Maxi-Cosi car seat and this meant that it was compatible with the Maxi-Cosi EasyFix Car Seat Base, making it suitable from birth to 13 kg or approximately 12 months. The thing I really liked about the base was that you can install it using IsoFix. What exactly is IsoFix? Well, according to an article I read, "IsoFix (International Standards Organisation FIX) is widely recognised as the safest way to install a child car seat. It is estimated that a two-thirds of car seats are incorrectly fitted, but IsoFix is so user-friendly, it makes it almost impossible to get the installation wrong. Most modern cars come fitted with IsoFix connection points located at the back of the vehicle seat. These are permanently connected to the body of the car and your IsoFix car seat attaches securely to these connection points. Some very new cars even come fitted with a third point that prevents the seat from tipping forward. "

If you look at the back seat in your car you will see metal loops that are attached to the back of the seat. These are so strong and basically in order to fit the Maxi Cosi Easy base you just hook the back clips onto them and secure them and the the base unit is firmly in place, it's that simple. My husband had to do it as it was a bit fiddly but basically once we had attached it this base did not leave our car for the next three years.

The front of the Maxi-Cosi easyfix base has a metal support leg that then reaches down to the floor. This is adjustable so will fit most cars and you know it is in place when the little indicator on the side is the colour green. It will show red until it snaps properly into place and when it is green you know you have put it to the right length and it is hard to the ground, providing downwards support.

The car seat then fit into this base and locks into place. Again a little green indicator colour will be shown to tell you that you have put the seat in the right position and until that time it will show red. The seat is really easy to get in and out and saves so much time it's unbelieveable. To release the seat on ours there is a little bar at the back of the seat that you pull outwards and it releases the catch.

To me this is the safest and only option I would have considered for my children in the car and I think it is well worth spending the extra money for. Look around because prices do vary but you can purchase one of these in the £80-£100 region.
