“ Brand: Maxi-Cosi / Type: Carseats „
When my son was outgrowing his first car seat it was time to take a look at the car seat to purchase next. There were so many seats out there and all looked good when surfing the internet but I wanted one that would be comfy for him and a recline feature was a must and that is when we looked at the Maxi Cosi Priori XP. My nephew is just 3 months older than my son so when they invested in the Maxi Cosi Priori we had the opportunity to take a good look at the seat without being hassled by sales staff. We decided that it looked good and fitted our requirements so set about looking to purchase 2, one for each of our cars. *~*Choosing the Priori*~* Maxi Cosi are part of the Dorel Family and other names in their brand include Quinny, Safety First and Bebe Confort, names most parents will recognise well. When we first looked at getting a car seat I wanted to get a Britax as it was a name I had grown up with but I soon changed my mind when I saw that these seats and realised who Maxi Cosi actually were and how they were a top quality brand. I had been to Babies R Us and Mothercare to look at other seats but was fortunate enough that I narrowed down the seats I liked and got my husband to check he was happy (which he normally was) We looked at a lot of seats that were cheaper and found that they were quite hard and I wanted something comfortable for my son to sit in as he still snoozed quite reguarly in the car comfy and with recline was my priority along with safety. *~*Fitting the Seat*~* We fitted the seat into my husbands car as my son was still ok in his first car seat and I was still using it on the pushchair chassis for convenience. The seat itself took about 5 minutes to fit into the car and we were both very happy that it was secure and safe. We didn't opt to purchase the optional isofix base and we fitted the seat using a lap and diagonal belt. The seat itself sits on a large base and fits nicely onto the back seat of your car. At front of the seat is a lever and you have to slide along the lever at the front of the seat and this releases a mechanism at the back of the seat. Fully recline the seat using the button found underneath the front of the seat, and then thread through the seatbelt. The seatbelt will then feed through the posts at the back and lock into place, just make sure that you pull the belt tight to secure it into place. If you do get stuck with most products nowadays you can obtain a video online. *~*Features*~* The seat cover can be easily removed and washed and we have done this on a number of occasions, it dries very quickly and fits back on nice and snug so its ideal when messy fingers have been let loose around the chair. The recline feature is ideal by pressing a button at the front of the seat you can recline the seat into 4 positions, ideal for sleepy children and what is more is they look extremely comfortable. We invested in the support pillow for our son to offer extra comfort for him and as it is a winged headrest it allows him to get into a more comfortable position and restricts his movement of his head whilst driving corners etc. This is easy to fix you simply remove the section of the fabric where baby's head goes as this is fixed with velcro and behind here are some plastic strips, the headrest simply slides onto the headrest and sticks onto the velcro holding it in place. The straps are adjustable and easy to change around. Again you need to open the section where baby's head goes which is fastened by velcro, remove the straps and readjust. Simples. The seat has side impact protection which for me is very important that our child is protected in the event of a collision and offers me a little bit more reassurance. The seat is available in a number of colours but we opted for Black Reflection which suits our cars fine as the interior is black. The only downside I have noticed is that the covers to fade in the sun but replacements can be purchased if required. The seat itself keeps my son nice and snug and when we have had to brake hard or taken a corner a little more sharpely he barely moves in the car seat, keeping him secure and comfortable. The seat comes with seat pads to protect little shoulders and a padded crotch pad. The big red button is a huge attraction to my son however and we have made sure when securing him into the seat he is not able to see how we fix him into the seat incase he manages to unclick himself whilst either my husband or I are driving. I would say that the seat is easy to use but my in laws however would disagree after 20 minutes of trying to fasten him into the seat!!! It is relatively easy to use once you do it for the first time by ensuring the two metal clasps fit inside one another before slotting into the button where it will click to fasten. Product Information: Max seat width: 300 mm Seat depth: 310 mm Heigh of seat 580 mm External width of seat: 440 mm External depth of seat: 520 mm External height of seat: 690 mm Weight: 9-18kgs (Approx 9 mths to 4 Years)
When my son was getting to around 8 months we decided that we better buy a group 1 car seat which is a car seat that is suitable from the age of 9months to 4years. We looked everywhere for one and could not believe the amount of different types there was so we decided to go to halfords as they have a vast range of seats and offer to fit the seat which you choose which is great as it helps to make sure you know how to fit the seat properly. After a while of speculating we decided to go with the maxi-cosi priori xp child seat which I think was definitely the right decision. It cost us £149.99 which does seem extremely expensive but for your child's safety it is worth it. The seat is front facing and features a five point safety harness which also has padded shoulder pads which prevents the harness from rubbing against your child and also makes it more comfortable. To fasten the straps you put your child's arms through either side and join both harness parts together and clip into the buckle which works in the same way as seat belt buckles. To adjust the straps there is a button with is in the middle of the seat which when pressed you pull the straps and this makes them longer so that it fits your child as they grow. If you need to tighten the straps you simple pull the centre strap which hangs down between your child's feet til the required fitting. The shoulder straps are adjustable to 3 positions which is great as when your child first starts using the seat the shoulder straps will be at the lowest position and then as they grew you simple move the straps up to the suitable points so that its fits better. Another feature which adds to the comfort for your child is that it has 4 reclining positions which can be altered simply by pulling a lever outwards which is under the seat. We use this feature a lot as if my son is tired we tend to tilt the seat to a position where he is lying back a bit so that he will be more comfortable to fall asleep. Overall I think this is a superb car seat which is easy to fit and can be fitted into most cars. The fitting process takes me only about a minute to fit now as its a case of placing the car seat into the car, reclining the seat and loosening the belt tightener which is at the bottom of the seat. Then you put the seat belt through the part under the seat and clip into the buckle. You then simply clip the belt tightener back on which further secures the seat in place and adjust the reclining position as desired! This may sound a bit confusing but I can guarantee it is very easy and quick to do when you know how. My son is now 3 and still fits in the seat no bother so it has definitely been worth the money as it has lasted us since he was 9 months! Highly recommend it.
I've recently bought this seat for my 9 month old and it is fantastic. I have a Peugeot 307CC and it has been a nightmare to find a stage 1 seat that fits it really well, but the Priori XP does just that. It is extremely easy to fit and sits well in the "bucket" seats of my car. The handle at the front ensures a nice tight fit in the car too, so there's no seat movement. The seat has little "slits" on either side which are perfect for holding the straps out of the way when taking baby out of the seat. The straps are easily adjusted and the one hand pull to tighten the straps / loosen the straps is in my eyes a neccessity. It seems very comfy for my baby, she has plenty of room while being secure. The recline position is great for her sleeping and the upright position is perfect for her to have a good look around. The seat is stylish and practical - what more can a mum want for her little one? It was slightly more expensive than many on the market (£110), but worth the extra money for the extra security.
Bought in Summer 2005 for £120 at a local baby shop (although available in John Lewis, Mother care and many other stores). I bought this car seat for my son after much research. Advantages; 1) Removerable washable cover (although it says handwash only on mine I wash it on a gentle setting in my machine), 2) clips to hold back the straps which saves time searching for the clips! 3) Multi position recline 4) Easy to adjust straps (height and tightness) 5) Easy to fit and fits in many cars Disadvantages: 1) Cover is a bit fiddly to remove (I've only done it once so not a major issue) Suitable from 20lbs for confident "sitters". I would advise anyone contemplating purchasing a car seat to get it fitted in your car(s). Not only to check that you know how to fit it safely but also to check that it is suitable for your car. Not all car seats fit all cars.
Now, when it came to buying a Stage 1 car seat for my young toddler, I couldn't believe that amount of seats that were available. It felt a bit daunting to me as to which one to choose, and where to go for information, and who were the best seats. When I eventually settled on this one, I was really pleased with it, and 10 months after buying it, I have finally decided to write a little review on it! Ok, well first things first. This seat is made by a famous Children's car-seat manufacturers called Maxi-Cosi. I had always known that Maxi-Cosi were amongst the best car seats you could buy for children, which is why I somewhat leaned towards this brand when searching for a new seat. Maxi-Cosi is part of the Dorel Netherlands group, who also own the Quinny brand, which produces high-end strollers for children. So when you talk about Maxi-Cosi you know they know their stuff when it comes to car seats, and this is an important factor for any parent when the time to purchase a new car seat comes along. I actually went along with my partner, our son and my brother to Halfords one December weekend to get a good look at all the car seats they had to offer. We sat poor Harry in about 10 different seats, which all looked different, all were for different ages and sizes, and all different brands. This was the first seat which my son seemed really comfortable in, it looked nice and comfortable, safe and very sturdy. Another bonus of course was the name Maxi-Cosi which came attached to the seat. I found out that this was a Priori XP car seat which is suitable from 9 months old until your child reaches 4 years old. In weight terms, this is roughly from around 9kg through to around 18kg. It is within the label of a Group/Stage 1 car seat, which caters for the age group I have mentioned above. This seat is compatible with a 3 point seat belt harness, which is the standard seat belt fitted in all cars. It is also a forward-facing car seat, so before buying a stage 1 seat, make sure your child is comfortable sitting up straight and they will be ok with a forward facing seat. Now to the seat itself. There were many features which came with this seat which made it stand out from the many others that were available to us. Firstly as mentioned was how comfortable Harry seemed. It was thoroughly padded in the seat, and at the back also, so on longer journeys, Harry would be happy sitting in it. Also, there are nice high sides both alongside the seat and along the tall back of the seat, giving a lot of extra protection in case you are involved in a collision, something of great importance to any parent. It features a 5 point harness which basically means it has 2 shoulder straps, 2 straps from the side along your child's waist and the clip between your child's legs. This is the msot safe harness you can buy for your child, and I recommend keeping your child in a 5 point harness as long as possible. The seat comes with nice padded straps as well at the shoulders, which means they won't dig into your child's shoulders, and leaves them sitting nice and comfortably. One fab thing I love about this seat, even 10 months on, is the special clips on the side. On the picture you can see 2 small grey posts on the sides of the seat. These are posts which can hold back the shoulder straps when you are sitting your child onto the seat, so they can't sit on them or they won't get in the way. Simply pull the straps back and shove them in the gap between the post and the side of the seat, and all strap problems are solved! So simple, but so great for any parent with a fidgety child and who wants an easy life! Another thing which is good is the fact this seat has a 4 position recline. Using a small handle located at the front of the seat just underneath the lip of the sit, pull the seat until it reclines. There are 4 positions: Seated upright, quarter recline, half recline and full recline. This is handy for long journeys if your child falls asleep as the recline can make them more comfortable and will stop their neck aching. It is also easy to recline one handed too, making it nice and easy for us parents. Changing the level of the seat belts is easy peasy compared to other seats I have seen on the market for this age group. The back portion of the seat which covers the seatbelt areas is actually onto velcro, so simply lift this up, manoevre the seatbelt out of its slot, and slide it down or up into the next position. This is easy to do, and I found it no problem, even though I am not a pratical person! Also, adjusting the length of the straps is easy. To tighten, simply pull the long strap located at the front of the seat, between your childs legs tight until the straps are tight across the shoulders. To loosen, press the button which is in the hole where the long length of strap protudes, and pull the straps from the shoulders. Again, so easy to do, making this seat just fantastic!! Now installing this seat is easy-peasy. But before attempting to take this seat out and put it in your car, make sure you are totally familiar with the process of putting it in so it is safe. It is in the instruction manual you are given, and you can also find it on the website with an animated instruction, which is handy to watch! Anyway, back to my point. The seat comes on a chunky plastic base which sits directly onto your normal back seat of your car. You have to slide along the lever at the front of the seat (the grey thing on the bottom right of the seat in the above pic) which releases a mechanism at the back of the seat. Completely recline the seat as far as it will go using the lever underneath the front of the seat, and then thread through the seatbelt. You have to place the seatbelt through the posts at the back (better explained in the manual!) and lock everything into place, making sure you pull the belt nice and tight. Recline the seat to a sitting position again, move the lever back to its original position, and that's it, easy peasy! You should be shown how to do this by the fitter where you buy the seat. This seat can set you back around £140 which yes, is quite a lot of money but when you look at the quality of car seat you are getting here, as well as the sleek design, parent-friendly features, and comfort for your child it is a great price. Also, if the seat lasts you 4 years, that is only £35 a year, which is great! The seat comes in 8 colours (Black, Penguin, Harry, Indian Spice, Skydiver, Deep Red, Happy Flower and Ocean Blue) so there is something to suit everyone, which is handy! Halfords are currently selling this for only £119.99 so shopping around can get you a few pounds off! The side-impact protection is a real bonus for me, knowing Harry's head is so supported and protected in the event of a crash is great. It is also possible to buy a few handy accesories for this seat on the Maxi-Cosi website. After a bit of searching, these are available on different websites so have a shop around for the best prices. You can buy a support pillow, useful for younger children's heads for longer trips, a cup holder (I am so buying one of these!!), a summer cover and a play tray which sits across your child's legs, handy for keeping them entertained! Ooh and another feature is the fact that the covers are fully removable so you can give them a good old wash, handy for those of us with very messy toddlers! Technical information: Size of the product: Max seat width: 300 mm Seat depth: 310 mm Heigh of seat 580 mm External width of seat: 440 mm External depth of seat: 520 mm External height of seat: 690 mm Weight: 9,2 kg Group 1 For children from 9-18 kg Age: 9 months - 4 years I would thoroughy recommend this seat. Harry has had it for 10 months now, and has been on many a journey in it, and it is such a comfy seat, he never moans about going into it. The covers have washed up like new, and the seat itself looks as good as the day I bought it home. It is easy to install, has fab features which makes it use even easier and is a thoroughly safe car seat, the most important factor of all. The seat belt in the car itself doesn't move an inch thanks to the tensioner behind the seat, so you know your child is lovely and safe. Well worth the money, you won't regret this purchase! Thank you very much for reading all of this! Oh, and as always, make sure you get the shop to fit it into your car before you purchase it to make it fits ok, and that they show you how to install it correctly.
This is a cool, stylish seat which oozes safety. It has an improved side protection system and is easy to install -even the grandparents can do it. My little ones always nod off quickly so it must be comfortable and it reclines really easily, you can even do it with one hand. The five-point harness has a one pull tighten feature, which ensures a great fit and there are handy little hooks to hold the straps as you put your child in the seat. Expect to pay around the £140 mark give or take! Overall: "A great buy." buy it Specifications Side Protection System offers better protection during side impact collisions.
