Mothercare Dream Booster Seat
Advantages: Simple to put in and out of the car.
Disadvantages: Sometimes blocks the seatbelt connector.
We bought this booster seat when the law changed regarding car seats for children. It was reasonably priced at around £20 from Mothercare, and as I had bought products from the store before, I knew I could trust the brand and that I would be getting a good product.
Many car seats are made from moulded polystyrene, but the Mothercare Dream booster is made from a harder plastic, which makes it more solid and durable. It is also a little heavier than the average booster seat, so is less likely to slip around. The seat is quite wide, and can accommodate larger children with ease. The whole seat is covered with a smooth cover, which can be wiped over quite easily or removed and washed in the case of bigger accidents, though it is handwash only. We have had our seat for several years and I have never needed to wash the cover at all and it still looks really nice. The fact that it is a dark grey colour means that dirt doesn't really show up on it anyway!
Despite being made of hard plastic, the seat has enough padding to be comfortable. All my kids, ranging from 5-9 have used it and nobody has complained about being uncomfortable. The seat is suitable for children between the ages of 4 and 11. A slight issue with the wider seat is that I sometimes need to shuffle it to the side to get the seatbelt in the connector, as it is usually covering the connector, and this can be a bit of a pain when you are in a rush. A sueful feature of the seat is the attatched "belt guide", which ensures that the seatbelt rests on the child's shoulder in the correct position, making the child safer in the event of an accident and preventing them from slipping the seatbelt under their arm or into the wrong position.
I think the seat has been a good investment, as it has already lasted well over these past few years and I see no reason why it shouldn't see us out and still be in a decent condition to pass on to someone else. It is a good, solid basic seat, that will match any car interior with it's neutral colours. The seat also has armrests at the sides for added comfort.
The seat comes with a two year guarantee from the manufacturer. My personal experience with this seat over the last couple of years has been very good, particularly the fact that it is very easy to put in and out of the car, unlike many car seats which seem to require a degree in engineering to install! The dream booster is just placed onto the car seat and the car seatbelt is used to secure the child.
Summary: A good solid basic seat.
