When my first daughter was around 8 months old she started to outgrow her starter car seat, even though the seat was supposed to be for up to a year our daughter was too tall and her feet were getting crunched up against the seat and her head was heading for the top of the car seat. As we hadn't expected to have to change the car seat so soon we were al little short on the pennies and started trying to find a car seat that was going to last but also didn't cost the earth.
We came across the Nania Basic Lux car seat in Argos, I have looked this up to see what the current selling price is and have found that the seats are now listed as Babystart even though when you go into it the picture is Nania so I would gather from this that the company is one in the same. The seat cost us about £45 but this was 2 and a half years ago, I have found them brand new on Ebay for £30 at the moment and Argos although there is £10 off in Argos at the moment so it should be £39.99.
The seat is for groups 0-1 which is approx birth to 5 years old or birth to 18kgs. The seat faces backwards for from birth to 9kg although we never tried this as we needed it for the stage 1. From 9kg the seat is forward facing and stays like this until 5yrs/18kg or when the child simply outgrows the seat. The seat has a couple of recline positions so that the baby can be comfortable to sleep and has a head cushion to stop babies head lolling from side to side. The harness is a 5 point harness which is a pull action to tighten and a button to release which can be quite hard to get positioned right but I think this is so the child couldn't do it by accident. The harness also has 2 cushions around them for added comfort on the shoulders. The cover can be removed from the chair for washing which is really good as I have known seats before where it has just had to be a rub down with a cloth.
The seat comes in various colour ways, we bought the pink and black but I know there was at least a grey and black and a navy and red but there may be even more colours. To fit this seat into the car can be a bit of a pain, you have to recline the seat as far back as it goes to feed the seat belt behind the seat but then it needs a bit a strength to pull it really tight and clip in place before putting the seat back upright, sometimes if you haven't pulled it tight enough you put the seat back it can feel it is fitted too loosely.
I would recommend this seat, my daughter was always very comfortable and she is a child that always gfoes to sleep in the car yet because we could recline the seat she never ended up with her head falling forwards. Although my child is tall I wouldn't say this is going to last til 5 years old unless your child is tiny as she came out of this seat just after her 3rd birthday as her head was passing over the top of the seat. The seat is still in good condition though and I think the fact of it being washed often helps with this so now it will be used for her sister when she can use a forward facing seat.
