      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Award winning design so good first car seat at reasonable price.

A car seat is an essential item when you have a new baby as many hospitals won't discharge you until they see the car seat. We bought our Recaro car seat as we had bought the Mclaren XLR buggy which is compatible with it. We also purchased the isofix at the same time. The car seat can be installed in a car by isofix or by the traditional 3 point harness. The isofix does make installation very simple as all you have to do is clip it into place. It is easy to release by pressing on the handle on the isofix. I would recommend you purchase the isofix for your own car so you can quickly put in and take out the car seat. If your car is an older model please check first whether or not it is isofix compatible.
As I have also had to travel by taxi on occasion I have had to install the car seat using the traditional seat belt. This is fairly easy to do as the points where you need to thread the belt through as clearly indicated with blue arrows on a white background. This is a good design feature in my experience as it takes a lot of the stress on installing the seat away. You may wish to practice putting the belt on in your own car first before trying someone else's car so you are familiar with the system especially if you are dealing with a crying baby!
The Recaro car seat is well made with good protection for your baby. It is a group0+  car seat so it is suitable from birth to around 15 months or 13kg/29 lbs. I particularly liked the padding and lining when my baby was newborn as he looked very secure in the car seat. As he has grown I have removed some of the padding and adjusted the back height to suit him. The instruction manual was easy to follow and the height can be adjusted to 5 different levels. As you change the height if the back the harness adjusts automatically which again is a good design feature.
The Recaro car seat comes with a rain cover and also a small sun canopy. The sun canopy is useful but I would still get blinds for your car to provide shade. I have been known to drape a scarf over the carrying handle to get some extra shade.
As you may be carrying the car seat in and out of your car weight is important. The Recaro car seat weighs 4.3 kg which is slightly heavier than others such as the maxi cosi but the difference is negligible and I couldn't feel the difference when I tried them out in a shop. My Recarro car seat now feels pretty heavy with the baby inside it but thankfully it clips easily onto the buggy using the adaptors that slide onto the front of the buggy. To release you just press the button underneath which I have found to be straightforward. The carrying handle does help with transporting the baby and is comfortable however it does require both side buttons to be pressed to adjust it and a better feature in my opinion would be if just one button could be pressed instead.
For the fashion conscious the Recarro car seat does come in a variety of colours. It was also awarded the Mother and Baby Gold Award 2009/10 Best Infant Carrier Group 0+ which does demonstrate it is a well design item of baby equipment.
Overall I would recommend the Recaro Young Profii Plus for its design and think it is worth the £115 we paid. I tried out the Recaro in Mothercare and John Lewis but ended up buying it in Halfords .

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

Good looking, well built, safe & secure for your most precious cargo

I purchased the Young Profi Plus car seat in 2008 with a Maclaren Techno XLR pushchair as a complete travel system and it is the single best purchase I have ever made as a Mum.

The Young Profi Plus is a group 0+ car seat, meaning it will last from birth until approx 12-15 months or your baby weighs 13kgs/29lbs and it was awarded a Mother and Baby Gold Award in 2009/10 for Best Infant Carrier (Group 0+). Being a Recaro, THE manufacturer of motor sports safety seating, I was expecting ALOT when we ordered this seat and I wasn't disappointed.

The seat is very well padded with large side wings to protect your baby from any side impact and it comes with a head hugger for use with newborns which is easily removed when no longer required. It is very well built and feels solid, although it is not as heavy as many other group 0+ seats (it weighs 4.3kgs).

There is plenty of adjustability in the seat aswell, as you are able to lengthen the back as your baby grows. There are 5 height adjustments on the backrest and the harness automatically adjusts as the backrest grows. It is a 'snug' seat - in that, I mean that your baby will not wobble around in it, as I have seen with many of my friends babies in their group 0+ seats. The carry handle is comfortable to use and easily moved by pressing a button on either side of the seat. It has a 5 point harness with padded strap covers and a padded buckle guard. The straps are very easy to adjust and pull tight using a trigger button and pull strap mechanism. The cover is removable and machine washable. It also comes with a decent sized sun shade which is attached with poppers, so is easily removable aswell.

The seat is available in many different colour combinations and from a variety of on-line and high street stores. I paid approx £100 for the seat and prices haven't changed much. I have seen them available now for anything between £100 and £120. A point worthy of note is, if you are looking to purchase the seat as a travel system with the Maclaren Techno XLR (as I did), I would advise visiting the Maclaren website first, as there are only 2 or 3 colour combinations available in both the pushchair and carseat.

It is an Isofix compatible seat and I use the Isofix base in our main car which is easy, as you just click the seat in and out without the need to use a seatbelt. You do have to buy the base seperately, at a cost of approx £75, but I would always buy one if you have Isofix mountings in your car, as it is rated as the most safe way of attaching a car seat. However, I have used it many times in our second car and other people's cars without the base and it is easy to secure with a seatbelt. There are blue stickers on the seat, showing you exactly where to slot the seat belt, so it's hard to go wrong with it.

I have 2 daughters who have both used this seat. One was a very large baby and the other a small baby and they have both been comfortably supported and accommodated by the Young Profi Plus.

Overall, the Young Profi Plus is a good looking, well built, safe and secure seat made by a company with an exceptional reputation. You cannot go wrong by buying this seat for your baby, they are after all the most precious cargo you will ever carry in your car!
